Summary The New Mexico VA Healthcare System is recruiting for a Health Technician (HT) assigned to the Emergency Medicine Department. The HT will provide assistance of a technical, specialized and support nature to health and medical personnel in the diagnosis and treatment of patient's illness or medical condition. Responsibilities Primary Duties Include: Perform peripheral and EJ venipuncture to obtain serum blood samples as initiate IV therapy as ordered according to established policy and procedures. Assists medical and nursing personnel with the set up for sterile procedures such as spinal taps, suturing, and the insertion of chest tubes. Set up, monitor, and operate medical equipment. Perform EKG's and establishes continuous cardiac and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring of patients. Care for patients who require close observations. Respond to emergency situations such as cardiopulmonary failure/distress, hemorrhaging, and shock by assisting in resuscitative measures. In addition to meeting the IOR above, you must meet the following:: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: performing administrative and routine task in a medical setting to include: prepare treatment rooms; clean used medical instruments and equipment; maintain patient records; assisting with patient examinations/minor procedures; answering phones and directing phone calls to appropriate personal; and record patient vitals/medical history. Physical Requirements: Good vision and hearing are required to collect patient data. The work requires above the average agility and dexterity. The work requires long period of regular and recurring walking, standing, stooping, heavy lifting, bending, stretching, pushing, turning, and at times lifting heavy equipment or patients. The work requires the use of good body mechanics and stamina to withstand stress. Transporting patients to procedures is necessary. Must be able to effectively wear personal protective equipment.
