  Position Summary Information

  Job Description Summary

  Responsible for daily functions within the HIM department including all aspects of maintaining patient records and assisting internal and external customers via telephone and window service. Understands the importance of HIM within the organization and the process of assuring a complete and accurate medical record. Demonstrates exceptional customer service at all times to patients, coworkers, clinical staff, and other people presenting at or contacting the HIM Department.

  Minimum Qualifications

  Associates degree in Health Information Technology preferred. One year of Health Care, Insurance, or Administrative Support related experience required. Education in Health Information Management, Health Care Sciences or other health related two year degree may be substituted for years of experience. Must be skilled with Microsoft Office products: Excel, Word, PowerPoint. Ability to communicate effectively with all external and internal customers via telephone, email, and in person. Must be a critical thinker with ability to resolve problems and find solutions. Must be able to independently work on additional projects assigned by HIM Director such as productivity monitors or quality checks.

  Education Level High School Graduate

  Preferred Qualifications

  RHIT certified or ability to sit for exam. One year experience in a clinical or Health Information Management Department in specialized field.

  To be considered for HIM Specialist II, Registered Health Information Technician ( RHIT ) is required.

  Physical Demands

  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle objects; controls, reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel; talk or hear; taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance and color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to stand for long periods of time, climbing, reaching and lifting up to 30lbs.

  Pay Range

  HIM Specialist I- $17.00 – $17.85 per hour

  HIM Specialist II (w/ RHIT Certification) – $20.57 – $21.60 per hour
