Job Description Summary
The H&S coordinator will contribute to the development and maintenance of the site health and safety program to ensure protection of all facility employees, contractors and visitors. In the role of H&S coordinator, you will utilize experience and expertise to identify and confirm regulatory requirements applicable to site operations and develop required H&S programs, training, and testing inspections to ensure compliance with all applicable H&S regulations. You will also track facility performance using an EHS information management system (EIMS). By developing and implementing these compliance and best management practices, the H&S coordinator contributes to both short- and long-term business goals. Accountable for the quality of own work. Subject to direct operations supervision/prescribed work instructions/systems checking. Executes within a well-defined operations framework. Roles and Responsibilities
Contribute to or lead the development and implementation of site-specific H&S programs and processes including:
Emergency Preparedness and Fire Protection
Safety Risk Assessments and Safe Working Procedures for Non-Office Activities
Change Management
H&S Training
Ergonomics
Contractor Safety
Hazardous Chemical Management
Hearing Conservation Testing
Crisis Management
· Work with the business operational managers to ensure that all operational activities are clearly identified, eliminated whenever possible, and risk assessed to ensure that safe working procedures are effectively developed and implemented, and that identified safety hazards are appropriately controlled (e.g. barriers and engineering controls)
· Be responsible for timely completion of all required H&S tests and submission of results
· Drive improvements in H&S compliance processes, employee training, and H&S performance for key site metrics, and track this information using the facility’s EIMS
· Support the facilities team by identifying critical safety and security equipment, and contribute to the development of preventative maintenance plans to manage these effectively and compliantly
· Review typically completed operations to identify potential hazards, develop mitigations for these hazards, and document in a written job hazard analysis
· Contribute to maintenance of the site’s Emergency Action and Hurricane Preparedness Plans, and participate on the facility Incident Management Team
· Contribute to the development of training plans to cover both site induction orientations and task-specific safety training
· As directed, induct and train employees and contractors/service companies in basic H&S awareness and AA / local rules
· Conduct compliance and company policy audits, spot checks and reviews necessary to meet company and local compliance requirements to reduce risk liability
· Implement injury prevention initiatives focused on world-class health and safety performance
· Participate on root cause analysis teams for any injuries, first aids or near misses to identify any preventive and corrective actions to minimize the potential reoccurrence of such events
· Actively work with the facility EHS Leader to promote and enhance the facility’s EHS culture
Required Qualifications
· Bachelors degree in health & safety management or similar from an accredited university or college or Associates Degree plus 3 years of experience in H&S program implementation or High School Diploma/GED plus 5 years of experience in H&S program implementation
· Minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience in H&S program implementation
Desired Characteristics
· Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) license preferred
· Extensive experience with US OSHA standards
· Strong oral and written communication skills
· Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
· Proven ability to work collaboratively across various levels in the organization with minimal oversight or direction
· Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
· Demonstrated ability to complete tasks in a relatively self-directed manner
· Ability to document, plan, and execute compliance tasks to be completed
· Established ability to work within computerized information management system
