THE OPPORTUNITY
Join Takeda as the Head of Direct Procurement in Zürich, Switzerland.
Objectives of the position:
Lead a world class procurement organization for direct procurement, which includes contract manufacturing, raw materials, packaging, equipment, capital expenditure, MRO, utilities, supplies, maintenance, transportation/logistics, Biolife consumables, and third party plasma for Global Manufacturing & Supply (GMS), Global Quality (GQ), and Plasma Derived Therapy (PDT) functions and operations.
Shape the overall strategy for direct categories and provide advisory council (i.e. in or out-source) to deliver sustainable, high-end supplier performance. Act as a voting member of the Manufacturing and Supply Committee (MSC).
Leverage Takeda’s global scale to take advantage of global, functional, and/or category synergies, while applying best practices, managing risk, and making sound decisions with agility at a global, regional, and local level.
Develop strong horizontal alignment with Regional Heads of Real Estate, Facilities and Procurement, Head of Supplier ESG, Head of Procurement Center of Excellence (CoE), and leaders and peers in the Business Units and Global Functions.
As part of a centrally funded model at a global level, provide global oversight of Procurement within the direct category. Co-create and deliver against the Mid-Range Plan (MRP), including synergy targets.
How you will contribute:
Cultivate relationships with the Global Manufacturing & Supply Officer, the Global Quality Officer, the President, Plasma-Derived Therapies Business Unit, and their organizations. Serve as the primary point of contact for Global Real Estate, Facilities, and Procurement within the GMS/GQ and PDT organizations. Draw upon the expertise of peers within the function and their organizations.
Develop, lead, and implement a direct procurement strategy that is aligned with the enterprise global procurement strategy. Accountable for playing an advisory role to key stakeholders on category specific procurement strategies, tactics, and practices.
Design and implement sub-category strategies in close collaboration with GMS/GQ, PDT, and other stakeholders. Major sub-categories included in direct procurement are contract manufacturing, raw materials, packaging, equipment, capital expenditure, MRO, utilities, supplies, maintenance, transportation/logistics, BioLife consumables, and third-party plasma.
Integrate the companies and the function and ensure category strategies are in-line with regional, local and Procurement CoE needs. Implement cost optimization (savings and avoidance) programs and drive supplier consolidation within category.
Steward of the global procurement policy and ensure adherence within the category. Establish communication channels to ensure internal alignment.
Drive strategic supplier management within the category. Deliver expected results such as achieving a targeted number of top suppliers, holding quarterly reviews, synthesizing, and managing to Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), ultimately improving overall supplier value and performance and ensuring proper risk mitigation plans are in place for critical materials and categories.
Oversee execution of routine business processes (new materials/vendor evaluation, issue resolution, supplier performance management, or contract negotiations). Lead RFP creation and negotiate competitive pricing and contract terms. Engage in an active partnership with Takeda Business Solutions (TBS) to deliver procurement operations and collaborate on the design and fine-tuning key processes such as Procure-To-Pay.
Implement Procurement CoE-led strategic supplier management, supplier risk management, supplier diversity, and CSR programs within category.
Collaborate with GREFP’s Head of Supplier ESG and Takeda’s EHS group to drive the planet agenda.
Achieve spending, savings, cash flow, invoicing, and payment targets and KPIs within category and sub-categories.
Ensure continuous improvement within the category. Monitor industry best practices. Introduce and leverage digital, automation, and contemporary technology e.g. AI, big data, and work with Takeda Business Services (TBS) Procurement Operations to implement.
Primary business partner for direct category and subcategory owners to ensure practices are aligned and agreed upon supplier outcomes achieved.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential capabilities and skills needed to excel in this role:
Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise:
In-depth knowledge of direct categories, including contract manufacturing, raw materials, packaging, equipment, capital expenditure, MRO, utilities, supplies, maintenance, transportation/logistics, BioLife consumables, and third-party plasma.
Proven success of designing and implementing complex sourcing and procurement strategies that achieved desired results within the category.
Deep technical expertise in strategic sourcing and procurement including in/outsourcing and on/offshore.
Strong business and financial acumen.

Complexity:
Expertise in navigating a highly complex mix of stakeholders across multiple Business Units and/or countries, with global and/or local agendas.
Experience in a highly regulated industry.
Minimum Qualification and Experience Requirements:
BA or BS required, MBA or master’s degree with Scientific and/or Supply Chain/Procurement emphasis preferred.
Procurement qualification (e.g. ISM, IPMM or MCIPS) valued.
At least 15 years working in biotech/pharma industry, or other highly regulated industries, with progressive leadership of procurement.
Possess in-depth knowledge of supply base and sourcing business practices.
Deep understanding of category—direct—and track record of successfully achieving business results.
Experience working in a complex global environment.
Demonstrated track record of building high performing teams/ organization.
Exceptionally skilled at stakeholder management and negotiation.
