Join us at Ames CSD, where your talents are recognized, and you have the opportunity to grow in a supportive and dynamic community.Ames High School is seeking a Head Boys Tennis Coach for the 2023-24 season.SummaryThe Head Boys Tennis Coach will work under the supervision of the Ames High Athletics Director. The Head Boys Tennis Coach must realize and appreciate the need to be a leader of the Ames High Athletics Department and be visible in the Ames Community promoting the sport of tennis. Work Schedule: 2-3 hours Monday-Friday during the season. Various nights and weekends for matches during season.Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Manages and supervises matches and practice sessions that promotes safe techniques, individual growth, teamwork, discipline, respect and superior sportsmanship.
Helps develop and foster youth tennis in the Ames Community.
Develops an off-season training plan per the IGHSAU rules to challenge our tennis student-athletes to improve their skills in the game of tennis.
Holds organizational meetings with tennis staff and students as needed to effectively communicate the vision of Ames High Boys Tennis.
Oversees program fundraisers that are compliant in nature and benefit the entire Ames High Tennis program.
Works with other members of the teaching staff to hold student-athletes accountable academically while monitoring their citizenship in the building and publicly.
Monitors and enforces code of conduct and eligibility expectations at all times.
Educates and monitors student-athletes in preventing them from engaging in hazing or bullying type behavior.
Works with the Athletic Director to secure, clean, properly store and inventory all equipment that is used in the tennis program.
Advises student-athletes on NCAA and other college regulations with regards to requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.
Assists the Athletic Director with the scheduling of matches.
Works with and promotes the tennis program with all types of media and respond in a timely manner to all media requests.
Communicates with coaching staff, players and parents on a regular basis your expectations of the program.
Works with the Athletic Director in evaluating assistant coaches and the hiring of coaches on an as needed basis.
Performs end of the season evaluations of all players and recognize all players positively in a year end banquet.
Aligns with the strength and conditioning staff for year-round strength and speed development, while also respecting in-season sports.
Instills a competitive spirit at all levels while coaching Ames High Boys Tennis positively and having/modeling fun while doing it.
Attends department meetings, clinics and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
With ACSD staff performs field preparation duties as needed to maintain a safe and attractive playing environment for the ACSD Tennis program.
Attends work on a consistent and punctual basis.
Performs other duties as assigned by the school Principal and Athletic Director.
Qualifications:
Experience coaching tennis at the high school level preferred.
State of Iowa coaching endorsement required.
Annual concussion certification required.
The successful candidate will exhibit:
Comprehensive knowledge of the game of tennis is expected.
Extensive knowledge of current tennis coaching techniques and procedures.
Knowledge of the IHSAA rules and expectations for the sport of tennis.
Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student-athletes.
Utilization of technology is required.
Communicate effectively in spoken and written words to all stakeholders.
Excellent organizational skills.
Establish a strong rapport with all stakeholders of the Ames High tennis program.
The applicant must embrace a high level of accountability and visibility to the ACSD.
The applicant should be a progressive thinker and a believer in planning and preparation.
The applicant must exhibit and model appropriate sportsmanship at all times.
The applicant must care about the student athlete as a whole person year around.
The applicant must support and expect tennis student-athletes to be multi-sport athletes.
