About the Position:
This position will work directly for the Highway 2 Corridor Recreation Manager and provides both technical and professional oversight of a highly complex Public Services program. Primary focus will be on the management of trails, wilderness, and developed/dispersed recreation along the Interstate Highway 2 corridor. With over 4 million people living within a short commute to the district, demand for a wide variety of recreational amenities/opportunities is high. The District manages 150 miles of trails and three wilderness areas that account for about 70% of the district. The district manages 5 campgrounds via concessionaire, and one ski resort permit at Stevens Pass.
Primary duties involve:
Serves as the Highway-2 Corridor Assistant Recreation ManagerHelps develop and provide leadership in the accomplishment of the District's annual recreation program goals/objectivesHelps manage the execution of the unit's wilderness/trails plans, dispersed/developed recreation plansActively coordinates and provides training to recreation field crews, volunteers and partners in support of program goalsOversees maintenance and construction of front and backcountry facilitiesCoordinates and implements trail construction and maintenance activitiesInstalls and maintains visitor information boards, travel signs, regulatory signs, and other signs associated with recreation sites, travel management, and public safetyManages Wilderness areas in accordance with the Wilderness Act through active monitoring, rehabilitation, and educationPerforms safety hazard analyses of public recreation use areas and takes or recommends corrective actionSubmits and manages grant proposals that support field operations and maintenanceDesigns and implements site condition surveys, oversees development of project specific work plans and cost estimates,Provides leadership, coordination and direction in the preparation and execution of service/capital improvement type contractsAssists in ski area permit administration, including in person meetings and ski area patrolsAble to effectively use and adapt to changing technology, including the use of general office software, use of national databases such as INFRA, and ability to gather then process spatial data using GPS and ARCGISAvailability to work weekends and holidaysWill perform other duties as assigned to support the Forest Service mission.

About the Forest:
The Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest comprises 1.7 million acres of land extending 140 miles along the western slopes of the Cascade Mountains from the Canadian border to Mt. Rainer National Park. The Forest covers portions of Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish, King, and Pierce Counties. Together, these counties contain over 55 percent of the state's total population.
