  SUMMARY OF THE POSITION :

  Reporting to the Senior Director of Government Funding, the Grant Writer provides government funding acquisition and retention. The position assists with the Inn-s resource development and government relations functions working as a member of a team under the direction of the Senior Director of Government Funding. Key activities include evaluation of public sector prospects for operating, capital and program support, and application of strategies that are consistent with Pine Street Inn-s mission to obtain support from these sources. This position is responsible for cultivation and solicitation of public sector funding sources, including research, proposal preparation, submission and presentation.

  The Grant Writer is a crucial member of a team that works under the guidance of the Senior Director of Government Funding. Their primary responsibility is to acquire and retain government funding to support Pine Street Inn's mission. The Grant Writer is responsible for identifying public sector prospects for operating, capital and program support, as well as developing and implementing strategies to secure funding from these sources. Moreover, the Grant Writer is responsible for researching, preparing, submitting and presenting grant proposals to public sector funding sources. Additionally, they will be required to maintain communication with relevant municipal, state, and federal government departments and representatives to ensure that Pine Street Inn's message is effectively conveyed and received at all levels.

  To be successful in this role, the Grant Writer should have experience in successfully acquiring grants, possess strong analytical and critical thinking competencies, and have excellent communication skills. Assist the Senior Director of Government Funding in maintaining liaison with appropriate municipal, state, and federal government departments and representatives, and help to implement strategies for positioning the Inn-s message at federal, state, and municipal levels.

  The ideal candidate must possess a record of accomplishment of demonstrable success in acquiring grants, thereby demonstrating the ability to secure external funding. Additionally, the candidate's analytical and critical thinking competencies must be well developed and evident, as they are crucial attributes for this position.

  EDUCATION/TRAINING:

  Minimum requirement: Bachelor-s Degree in social work, liberal arts, or nonprofit management, along with experience in government contract acquisition and compliance.

  KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

  The following are the requirements for the job position:

  A minimum of three (3) years of related experience

  Good written and oral communication skills

  Ability to write with clarity

  Effective analytical skills

  Ability to create a compelling narrative for operating, capital, and program support

  Detail-oriented focus

  Strong time management, organizational, and project management skills

  Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  PREFERRED:

  -Experience with government contracting and/or GrantHub

  -Familiarity with the issues underling homelessness, including disabilities, mental illness, substance use disorder, and poverty

  -Familiarity with the issues impacting the availability and accessibility of affordable housing

  PHYSCIAL ABILITIES/SKILLS:

  The candidate must be able to walk up to 4 flights of stairs.

  They should have the ability to communicate effectively in person, on the phone, and through computer systems.

  The candidate should be comfortable sitting for long periods and using various office equipment, such as desktop computers, laptops, scanners, fax machines, phones, and copiers.

  They should have their own means of transportation to attend meetings locally and outside of the Metro-Boston area.

  Strong PC skills, including expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  Ability to maintain energy in a sometimes fast-paced environment, working long hours occasionally.

  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  Ability to quickly develop a clear understanding and knowledge of PSI-s current activities, programs, goals, strategies, mission and financial needs

  Maintain an up-to-date understanding of PSI-s evolving strategy, competitive position, organizational capabilities, and the strengths and weaknesses of PSI

  Maintain and update an inventory of public sector funding resources from federal, state, municipal, and quasi-governmental entities that are appropriate to PSI existing programs and future vision

  Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to gather information and critical details related to funding opportunities that align to the agency-s mission and strategic priorities

  Conduct financial, market and organizational research to assist in defining and executing functional goals and opportunities

  Execute application work plans and schedules for complex projects

  Assist with the transition of funded grants to Finance and Programs staff

  Employ research and analytic skills to conduct analysis, inform and prepare for expected or anticipated national, state and local funding trends and activities

  Continually improve professional competency through training, including webinars and conferences

  Successfully engage in other projects and activities as assigned by the Senior Director of Government Funding

  Other duties as assigned.

  SUPERVISION TO BE EXERCISED (number of direct reports): No direct supervision to be given.

  SUPERVISION TO BE RECEIVED (Indicates nature of supervision to be exercised over this position in terms of types of guidance and control and instructions given). This is a direct report to the Senior Director of Government Funding. The Grant Writer functions as a member of the Inn-s Program Planning Department, and will work closely with the Senior Director of Government Funding to carry out his or her duties. Supervision will be general in nature with measurable goals for overall performance. This person is expected to work independently and exercise discretion.
