Job Description:
40% Assist principal investigators (PIs) and other project development staff with grant proposal application and associated annual report preparation. Review proposals and reports for compliance with federal, state, university, and funding agency guidelines. Alert PIs and other key personnel about required compliance actions. Verify adherence with funding opportunity requirements (e.g., receipt of all final documents, adherence to formatting guidelines). Obtain proper signatures and approvals from the KU Office of Research. Coordinate with subrecipients and other collaborators to obtain all required documents. Populate proposal and report application forms. Compile and submit proposals and reports via the KU internal system, online agency portals, email, and FedEx.
30% Specialize in budget development and review. Collaborate with principal investigators to develop proposal and annual report budgets and budget justifications. Enter proposal budgets into Excel, the KU internal system, and any required agency forms. Review budgets and justifications for compliance with federal, state, university, and funding agency guidelines. Verify allowable costs, salary restrictions, travel rates, and facilities and administration (F&A) rates.
15% Support PIs with other tasks such as preparing and submitting pre-proposals, letters of intent, Just-in-Time (JIT) requests, and no-cost extension applications.
5% Serve as a liaison for PIs with funding agencies and various divisions of the KU Office of Research, including Pre-Award, Post-Award, Contracts, Conflict of Interest, Human Research Protection Program, and Animal Care and Use. Assist with contract execution and modification, submit requests for non-automatic PI status designation, obtain financial reports, contact agency program officers, and complete various other tasks as they arise.
5% Represent the LSI PD team on committees, at training sessions, and at meetings with the KU Office of Research.
5% Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree (in accounting, business administration, or other relevant field) and two years of related experience (administrative, grant, accounting support, etc.), OR High School GED/Diploma with four years of related experience.
Two (2) years’ experience working independently to accomplish complex, detail-oriented tasks to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment as evidenced by previous work experience.
Excellent written and spoken communication skills. Written communication skills will be evaluated by quality of application materials. Spoken communication skills will be evaluated during the interview process.
Three (3) years’ experience with computers including spreadsheets, word processing, and database software programs.

Preferred Qualifications:
One (1) year of experience with grant preparation or grant administration for federal funding (NIH, USDE, NSF, HHS, etc.) or state funding.
Customer service skills as evidenced by work history.
Intermediate math skills as evidenced by work history and/or coursework.
Previous knowledge of and experience working in a university research environment.
Previous experience with University of Kansas electronic research administration systems
Position Overview:
The Grant Coordinator will assist in the grant proposal application and reporting process for external research funding for investigators affiliated with the Life Span Institute (LSI). LSI is a research institute within the University of Kansas that focuses on human development, education, and health. The Grant Coordinator will be a member of the LSI project development team, which follows a collaborative, service-oriented approach to grant administration. The LSI PD team assists LSI-affiliated faculty and staff with the preparation and submission of grant proposal applications and annual reports, budget development and review, and various other tasks. The LSI PD team also serves as a liaison for principal investigators with funding agencies and various KU offices, and attends grant administration meetings and training sessions on campus.
