Job Summary
This position provides professional support for pre-award activitiesrelating to grant and contract proposals and funding within theDepartment of Surgery. Pre-award activities include preparing grantapplications, budgetary assistance, and editing proposals according toguidelines. Performs work with moderate guidance and utilizes knowledgeof University and business drivers.
Responsibilities
Ensures that notices of relevant new funding opportunities forresearch programs are brought to the attention of faculty andfellows.Gathers needed documentation and manages the execution ofsub-awards, sponsored consulting agreements, amendments, andmaterial transfer agreements.Works with a broad array of sponsors, interpreting regulations andguidelines of multiple programs with broad and complex guidelinesfor proposal preparation and grant management.Works directly with the PI to develop proposal budgets and reconcileaward budgets in accordance with the needs of the research plan,agency, and University requirements.Responsible for timely submission of grant proposals and processingof other agreements.Coordinates grant award management, including submission of progressreports, non-competing continuations, ensuring timely submission oftechnical reports, invention statements, just-in-time submissions,no-cost extensions, and re-budgeting.Works closely with Post Award Manager to transition grantadministration upon award.Responsible for all data entry and internal routing of grantproposals in the AURA-Grants system.Tracks and reports faculty academic productivity throughpublications databases and other metrics.Manages and maintains relationships with external collaborators suchas NIH, DOJ, DOD, UChicago Research Administration, andcollaborating departments.Seeks new avenues for funding and grant opportunities and ensuresthat notices of relevant opportunities are brought to facultyattention. Works with sponsors to draft proposal budgets inaccordance with University needs, with a moderate level of guidanceand direction.Reviews all applications against University guidelines, in additionto drafting progress reports, non-competing applications,amendments, and budgeting. Responsible for all data entry andpreparation of grant reports and trend analysis.Prepares summaries of grants and effort allocations for PrincipalInvestigators, meets with them and responds to their questions.Coordinates with other departments/units/divisions regarding multiinvestigator grants. Serves as department contact for annu l auditsand agency site visits.Performs other related work as needed.Minimum Qualifications
