  Job Description

  The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado is the nation’s primary laboratory for research, development, and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. NREL emphasizes a well-integrated, interdisciplinary team approach to addressing the unique, fundamental research challenges for developing market-relevant, renewable energy technologies.

  NREL’s National Wind Technology Center located at our Flatirons Campus between Golden and Boulder, Colorado is seeking a year-round graduate intern to support workforce development program development. The successful candidate will work with an interdisciplinary team of experienced NREL researchers to build networks and create pathways that result in a diverse, adequate workforce at the scale needed to support timely, efficient growth of the wind industry to deliver on clean energy goals.

  We have openings for interns with availability for a yearlong commitment. The position is part time (10-15 hours per week) during the academic school year and full time (40 hours per week) during the summer months. The successful candidate will:

  Support the development of a geographically tiered network to convene and coordinate wind workforce stakeholders at the national and regional levels and provide targeted technical assistance.

  Assist with planning an annual national wind workforce conference with key stakeholders to support recruitment and relationship-building capacity and grow awareness of wind industry opportunities among students and jobseekers.

  Collect information on existing wind-related internship and apprenticeship programs.

  Identifywind energy educational programs that demonstrate success in advancingdiversity, equity, and inclusion, and accessibility(DEIA) and connecting with these communities to gather best practices, support entities within them in developing pathways and complementary programs and generate strategies for how these best practices could be replicated by entities in other communities.

  The successful candidates should be excited to learn more about land-based and offshore wind energy, workforce development, DEIA, apprenticeship programs, social-science research, stakeholder engagement, and communities of practice.

  Basic Qualifications

  Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree program, or graduated in the past 12 months from an accredited institution. Candidates who have earned a degree may work for a period not to exceed 12 months. Must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

  Additional Required Qualifications

  A strong interest in a career in workforce-related research or implementing workforce development programs.

  Demonstrated experience as a self-motivated learner with demonstrated ability to grasp new concepts quickly.

  Knowledge of workforce development, training programs, or renewable energy education.

  Demonstrated ability to work well within a team and independently with guidance from senior staff.

  A passion for clean energy technologies, especially wind energy.

  Job Application Submission Window

  Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

  Job Profile: Graduate I / Annual Salary Range: $42,700 - $68,300

  NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employee’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.

  Benefits Summary

  Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; 403(b) Employee Savings Plan with employer match*; and sick leave (where required by law). NREL employees may be eligible for, but are not guaranteed, performance-, merit-, and achievement- based awards that include a monetary component. Some positions may be eligible for relocation expense reimbursement. Internships projected to be less than 20 hours per week are not eligible for medical, dental, or vision benefits.
