About Indiana Geographic Information Office (IGIO):
The IGIO facilitates the development, maintenance, distribution, and use of comprehensive statewide geographic data and geospatial technology to empower governments, universities, and businesses to address issues affecting Indiana’s physical, economic, and social well-being. We:
Coordinate geospatial efforts between and among units of the federal, state, and local governments.
Integrate GIS data developed and maintained by state agencies and political subdivisions into a statewide base map.
Develop and maintain statewide framework data layers associated with a statewide base map (orthoimagery, elevation, cadastre/parcels, PLSS, geodetic controls, addresses, street centerlines, government boundaries, and many more
Provide public access to GIS data and framework data in locations throughout Indiana.
Salary:
This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $79,118. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.
Role Overview:
The GIS Project Coordinator reports to the Deputy Geographic Information Officer (GIO) for Programs and Outreach and will work across the team to support and lead projects. Experience in the GIS field is key, as this will facilitate an in-depth understanding of our work, improving the early identification of potential issues and roadblocks. You will support efforts in three critical areas:
IndianaMap: our open data portal hosts almost 300 datasets and keeps growing.
Imagery and elevation: we collect statewide orthoimagery every 4 years and lidar data every 8 to 10 years.
Data Harvest: a collaborative project with Indiana counties to increase the availability of key data layers at all levels of government.
These programs are complex with multiple projects and partners to ensure that the delivery of services and datasets meets the needs of the state, businesses, universities, and the public. You will oversee projects from inception to completion. These responsibilities will encompass coordination with various stakeholders and partners, contract and grant management, procurement, scheduling and task follow-up, and facilitating effective communication between all involved parties.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Lead the development, planning, and implementation of projects.
Working with the team, identify the best technologies and approaches for each project.
Communicate and coordinate with vendors and contractors.
Ensure project excellence by developing and effectively managing project schedules, budget, issues & risks, scope, resources, communication, and quality.
Continuously engage with all stakeholders to keep them abreast of project status.
Identify roadblocks and bring them to the team’s attention.
Develop status reports for both internal and external audiences.

What You'll Need for Success:
Required skills and knowledge:
Minimum 5 years of GIS experience.
Minimum 3 years of project management experience.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Strong relationship building skills.
Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ownership and accountability at work.
Strong organizational skills.
Strong Microsoft Office skills
Proven ability to work on many priorities at any given time.
Preferred skills and knowledge:
Experience with spatial data, data science, or informatics.
Financial management and contract management skills.
Familiarity with the IGIO’s programs.
Understanding of government operations.
Experience with federal, state, county, or local government.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
