Tetra Tech invites you to consider a rewarding opportunity within our Montana-based geotechnical engineering group as an entry-level Geotechnical Engineer working from either our Missoula, Helena, or Billings Montana office locations. Position also available in Tetra Tech local offices throughout the Front Range.
Our project assignments allow engineers to work and travel within the spectacular Rocky Mountain region and sometimes across the United States on diverse projects. We work on a wide array of geotechnical projects and in various industries, including: transportation (slope stability, deep foundations, construction oversight), public and private infrastructure, environmental hazard sites, mining, renewable energy, and oil and gas, and commercial development.
Typical geotechnical projects touch the entire spectrum of geotechnical engineering, including; geologic hazard studies and mitigation, soil and rock slope stability analyses, waste containment design, horizontal directional drill (HDD) design, shallow and deep foundation design, bridge and highway corridor foundation design, pavement section design, field instrumentation and monitoring, deep foundation load testing, and construction oversight and materials inspection. All of our geotechnical engineers are in the field often for site visits, field investigations, consultation with clients, and construction oversight.
Our Montana group has strong working relationships with area civil and structural engineering firms as well as government agencies that results in an efficient team working environment. Our geotechnical engineers work closely with our Missoula-based Materials Testing Group that performs specialized geotechnical testing as well as construction materials testing in the field. Successful candidate should have strong communication and technical skills. Previous work experience in the geotechnical/civil field is a plus.
Your Role:
Prepare proposals and cost estimates for variety of geotechnical projects.
Provide coordination and oversight for geotechnical drilling projects.
Perform geotechnical field reconnaissance.
Conduct geotechnical analyses such as slope stability, settlement, foundation design, road section design.
Geotechnical report preparation.
Perform geotechnical construction oversight on geotechnical projects.
Professionally interact with clients in meetings, phone calls, and emails.
Strictly adhere to company health and safety standards and expectations.

Qualifications:
Bachelor or Master of Science in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical/Materials emphasis, or related Geological Engineering degree.
Zero to three years of experience in geotechnical engineering.
Proficient in MS Word, Excel and other Microsoft software.
Proficient with current geotechnical design software.
Familiarity with geotechnical lab testing and construction materials testing expected.
