About General Utility Worker

  Description:

  "New Hire Utility" roles are responsible for learning to operate equipment associated with the extrusion or the tube mill and handling product

  Candidates must meet the following responsibilities while following safe job practices, SOP's and meeting quality requirements

  -All starting candidates are called Utility employees, and will be trained to operate, support, and move materials both on and off of the machines utilizing lifting techniques and hoists

  -Candidates will learn the "press team" operations as it relates to aluminum extrusion

  -Candidates will ensure that all quality objectives are met, operate or assist operators in extrusion or casting equipment, and report and review any unusual conditions to lead operator or supervisors

  -Candidates will work on a team and interact constantly with team members and members of management to meet daily production goals for their areas

  -Candidates must be willing to work in a Union environment and adhere to the terms of the Union as it relates to shift movement and flexibility whether they are a member of the union or not

  *Candidate must understand that they will be starting off as a utility worker and will be machine operating, quality, packing, inspecting, they are going to be learning all the departments and then once they go perm they will be moved into one specific department where they will remain until they bid on other departments if they so choose

  Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  Ideal candidates do not have to have a lifetime of machine operation experience, rather they would prefer candidates that have a mechanical aptitude, machine operating experience is encouraged, and production or related experience to the working environment is required.

  Candidates should have excellent verbal and written communication skills for all appropriate documentation in both the Utility role and through their career progression

  Candidates must have the ability and interest to learn to operate a forklift if they do not already have that experience and a "can do" approach to any cross training that they are asked to do

  Candidate must be able to work all shifts and work up to a 12 hour shift. Candidates must be flexible for Saturday work

  Ideal candidates have experience in machine operation so they understand process flow of raw materials through the production process, and goals met

  Candidates must be able to perform all physical demands to include frequent lifting of weight over 15 lbs an d occasionally up to 100lbs assisted. Candidates will step over obstacles, on and off of machinery, work with and around motorized equipment, bend, push, and pull objects in excess of 15 lbs, and pull objects up to 100lbs.
