  Overview:

  The Industrial Controls Technician reports to the Plant Maintenance Controls Supervisor.

  At Leprino Foods, starting compensation for this role typically ranges between $29 and $32.40 per hour.

  The environment at the Fort Morgan plant is a production-focused operation using highly technical, constantly changing state-of-the-art equipment and methods. The facility is expected to operate at maximum efficiency 350+ run days per year and 18-20 hours of production time per day. This challenges the incumbent to complete scheduled work within tight time deadlines and troubleshoot, identify and solve real time problems on demand.

  The Industrial Controls Technician is responsible for assisting the Controls Supervisor in the selection, installation, programming, documentation, training and knowledge of all plant industrial controls. They are also responsible for all computer integration of PLCs, HMIs and process controls within the facility. The Industrial Controls Technician is responsible for training of end users on the operations of newly installed or modified process or control systems. They are responsible for standardization of control systems and control logic designs, documentation of operational procedures and as-built drawings and logic. They will be the plant liaison for new system start up and commissioning by all outside controls contractors and system integrators to insure proper transfer of documented PLC programs changes and adequate training on the installation/changes that have been completed.

  The Industrial Controls Technician is responsible for following up on control work that has been done by Maintenance Technicians. They will assist in troubleshooting of control and instrumentation equipment problems, and make repairs to equipment that is at fault and not part of the control system.

  Some of the challenges in this position include reducing downtime with the updating of PLC logic and developing diagnostic tools with the data available through the controls; understanding the systems and keeping abreast of new technology to recommend upgrades that will reduce or eliminate problems; monitor and recommend adequate controls spare parts inventory; keeping control documentation up to date, and being available for off shift support.

  Performance in this position can be measured by the timely completion of work, minimizing of machine downtime, development and utilization of diagnostic data for preventative maintenance, and thoroughness of new system designs and installations.

  Knowledge and skills required to perform this position include general knowledge of industrial operations, working knowledge of various equipment and plant processes to understand, interpret and schedule work orders; strong technical and electrical aptitude (i.e., electronic controls, process controls, instrumentation, data networks, HMI systems, control and HMI software). The incumbent will be required to assess hardware and software and time requirements necessary for capital projects commissioning

  Responsibilities:

  The Industrials Technician will be required to interface with the following personnel for proper completion of his daily duties.

  Coordinate projects with other plants and Engineering/Controls Specialists.

  Support Plant Operators, Mechanics, Peers and Management.

  Interact with Vendors, Suppliers and Systems Integrators.

  Work with Plant ISS Supervisors.

  Work with Corporate controls technician.

  Act as a resource to production and maintenance in problem solving and troubleshooting operational activities to reduce downtime related to control problems.30%

  Calibrate all plant instrumentation in a wide variety of makes and types of specifications (i.e., temperature, flow, pH, vacuum, pressure, Foxboro, Honeywell, Taylor, Endress Hauser, Anderson, etc.).20%

  Work with industrial electricity (motor controls) to troubleshoot and repair electrical components and machinery including 480 VAC,

  220 VAC, 24 VDC, and other plant systems.

  15%

  Complete preventive maintenance work orders.15%

  Program/design P.C. programs for existing plant systems and capability of reconstruction and/or updating programs.10%

  Qualifications:

  Minimum Qualifications:

  The Controls Technician must be able to read, write and speak the English language in order to understand/adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's), to communicate effectively with others, to complete required documentation both in written and electronic form, and to troubleshoot systems utilizing the English language. Controls Technician must have the ability to: perform essential job functions; wear required personal protective equipment; comply with all applicable safety practices; maintain a clean work area; complete written reports; perform basic and intermediate mathematical calculations; enter data into and pull data from computer systems. Controls Technician must possess considerable problem-solving ability in dealing with equipment or troubleshooting when supervision is not readily available for consultation.

  Education and Experience

  A minimum of 18 years of age; two years experience with process controls; associates or two-year electrical/electronic technical degree or two years experience in industrial control system development and troubleshooting; basic knowledge of process equipment and operations; dairy/food manufacturing experience and knowledge of government and industrial regulations (e.g. PSM, OSHA, and USDA); computer proficiency in email, internet, Microsoft Office software, and computerized maintenance management systems (e.g. SAP); experience in AC frequency drives; and experience in instrumentation.

  A minimum of 2 years experience in a controls technician role with strong technical and electrical background (i.e. electronic controls, process controls, instrumentation, and data networks) or equivalent educational training with general knowledge of industrial operations; experience in schematic reading and PLC programming/troubleshooting; working knowledge of various equipment and plant processes to understand, interpret and schedule work orders.

  Preferred Qualifications:

  Advanced PLC troubleshooting and programming skills, 5 years experience troubleshooting and commissioning all types of process instrumentation, and advanced ability to troubleshoot system problems is preferred.
