The Food Scientist I isresponsible for collaborating with Brand Marketing to design winningplant-based foods based on consumer and market understanding. The scientist isalso tasked with designing the product & process, then ensuring scale-upruns smoothly in factory, and for launch follow up. The role encompassessupporting and/or leading product development programs across innovation,renovation and productivity. This position involves strong interactions withinternal cross functional teams and external suppliers, hands on bench andanalytical work, pilot plant work, managing formula cost andspecifications (ingredients and product & process), conducting andcoordinating industrial tests in plants, and assisting in industrialscale-up. The candidate must be able to represent R&I interests within thecompany during all projects and cross-functional interactions.In this role, you will be responsible for:Independently manage diverse projects according to stage gate methodologythrough adherence to project timeline, meeting project milestones, whiledelivering and following up on R&I project tasks.Act as the R&I driver on product attributes definition vs consumerexpectations as well as technical solutions within each program team,develop formulations and processes to deliver on consumer expectations,within project food safety, costs and timing requirementsDesign and lead pilot trials, support industrial trials, create analyticalreports, organize tasting sessions with Marketing, and draw conclusionsand recommendations for next steps.Analyze statistical and technical data while identifying trends thattranslates to the development of the product and the specification.Collaborate with suppliers to obtain best results for product development(brief suppliers and follow up on their progress)Collaborate with internal partners and external suppliers to troubleshootproduct development hurdles and to identify new approaches and technologiesParticipate in consumer test design, organize sample production and ensureproduct quality follow up.Realize scale up / industrialization with Engineering and Manufacturingdepartments.Participate as an R&I representative for product launch/start up bypreparing all specifications related to product line (except packaging)and ensure that all documentation needed is available prior to start up.Ensuring all developed products meet internal and external guidelines fornutrition, regulatory affairs, food safety, and food labeling(including a broad range of certifications).The base compensation range for this position is$65,000-80,000commensurate with experience. Bachelor's degree or higher in Food Science or closely related fieldpreferred.1- 3 years experience in food and/or beverage product development or closelyrelated fieldTechnical understanding on product formulation, industrial processes andmanufacturing practices, preferred knowledge and experience working ondairy, plant-based, and/or fermented productsFlexibility to travel (25%)Strong project management/organization and leadership skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsA ility to work cross-functionally and able to train staff.Proficient in product development systems and general computer skillsComfortable and passionate about creating, rapid prototyping, developmentand commercialization of ideas under tight timelines.
