GENERAL PURPOSE: The Finishing Specialist is responsible for assisting in the feeding of gluers, inspects cartons for defects, packs out product for shipment, assist the Operator with make-ready, and rotate breaks. This position reports directly to the Finishing Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assists Operator on make-ready.
Feeds machines upon completion of make-ready.
Able to perform all duties of a Packer/Inspector as needed.
Helps break out other gluers.
Performs line clearance according to established QOP.
Reviews job order to determine specifications and/or special instructions for job and examines approved sample to determine gluing areas, folding areas, and pre-breaks required to produce carton.
Makes determination to the number of cartons to pack in case in order to provide consistent case counts.
Examines glue pot and if necessary, clean; check level of glue in glue pot on all gluers and in drum for extrusion.
Ability to perform detection system test.
Throughout production run, perform checks to ensure cartons are folding properly and glue application is consistent and accurate. Monitors identification bars on multiple order jobs to prevent mixed items.
Ensures any non-conforming materials are identified.
Assists Operator in driving production.
Assists in the repair and preventative maintenance of gluers.
Performs other duties assigned by Finishing Manager.
Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, safety rules, security procedures and instructions.
Performs all duties according to established safety policy, including wearing all required PPEs to perform duties.
This position will help keep department in specs within all 5S and SQF guidelines, and immediately report any food safety concerns to management.
Willing to work flexible hours as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have high school diploma or equivalent G.E.D.
1-year work related experience in a manufacturing environment and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
Good basic computer skills.
Good problem-solving skills.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Good communication skills.
Must have working knowledge of finishing machine (gluer) and mechanical aptitude.
Ability to work in team environment.
Ability to work with little supervision.
Good attendance record.
Good mathematical ability, including good understanding of measurement systems and ability to utilize various measuring devices, e.g., calipers, micrometers, etc.
