The Financial Aid Communications Specialist's role is to provide student focused communications and customer service to prospective, current, and returning students requesting or inquiring about possible college funding opportunities. This position is the first point of contact when visiting the Financial Aid and Veteran Services Office.

The FA Communications Specialist acts as the initial representative of the financial aid office and should possess the following characteristics;

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The Financial Aid Communications Specialist will perform the following duties:
Provide counseling on general financial aid process and sources of possible aid.Explains and guides completing the FAFSA and explains federal, state, and other guidelines to students, parents and other customers of SFCC.Communicate in person, electronically or in writing with applicants, students and/or parents to convey and exchange information and documents; refers to Financial Aid Advisors as necessary.Review, evaluate, process and monitor information, records, transcripts, applications and/or other data in relation to the intake of the students FAFSA documentation/requirements.Provide assistance and various levels of advice and information to constituents on a variety of related matters, including financial aid qualifications and availability.Perform a variety of clerical services including answering phone calls, faxes, office emails, scheduling, staff meeting notations, and office filing and file maintenance.Process requisitions for supply ordering, office related payments, work orders, maintenance and marketing materials.Generates reports and mails paper communication to students such as; award letters, A+ notifications and monthly reminder postcards.Responsible for reviewing, scanning and processing financial aid documents for preparation of the verification process.Data entry and posting financial aid awards as needed.Assist with coordination and preparation of all financial aid related events throughout the school year (ie. FAFSA Frenzy, financial literacy workshops, exit counseling workshops, and new student orientation).Prepare and maintain appropriate financial aid files, reports and other information per Federal Student Aid Regulations.Functional supervision of day-to-day responsibilities may be exercised over student employees/work study.##
QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong oral and written communication skills.Provide excellent customer service.Preferred general understanding of Federal Student Aid programs and policies.Preferred general understanding of Missouri Department of Higher Education scholarship and grant programs.Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including; Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat Pro, etc.Preferred experience in Banner Student system and Application Extender Document Imaging.Be able to lift light objects (up to 10 lbs.) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday.Preferred at least 2 - 5 years experience of customer service. Working in an office setting preferred.EDUCATION:
Associate of Applied Science or Associate of Arts degree in business, accounting, finance, or related degree. Bachelors degree preferred.
PHYSICAL TASKS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Work involves sedentary to light work in an office setting. There is frequent sitting, with walking, standing and stooping occasionally required. There is an occasional need to lift light objects (up to 10 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday.
