Your internship will include impactful hands-on work within a department, networking, professional development, and building long lasting connections with other interns, mentors, and Sarasota County team members.
Department Responsibilities:
Salary Survey
Develop a salary survey to provide to identified comparable counties, cities, and other government entities to collect salary data on specific positions
Send, track, and follow up on survey requests; Contact non-respondent participants and participants that have missing data as well as send follow-up inquiries for any surveys with extreme responses (high ranges, higher qualifications, etc.)
Organize the collected data in an accurate and easily understandable manner for management/leadership review
Analyze and compare salary data to Sarasota County positions to determine market alignment and make recommendations/adjustments/updates as needed
If necessary, prepare memo or adjustment form for changes impacting classifications, pay grades, or employees
Classification Specification Update Project
Research similar classifications to Sarasota County at identified comparable counties, cities, and other government entities.
Meet with the most appropriate Supervisor/Manager as identified by the department Directors to discuss duties and minimum qualifications for classifications within their department/division to ensure consistency, accuracy and alignment with organization goals.
Collect the researched data and organize it in an easily understandable manner for management/leadership review.
Based on the market data and management/leadership input, determine if our class specs are in line with the market and accurate to the current duties of the position.
Update the class spec document and provide to CHRO for approval and signature.
Internship Program Responsibilities:
A presentation to the County Administrator and other County Leadership staff is required at the close of the internship program.
Participate in all organized intern events and trainings.

About You
Minimum Qualifications:
At least 18 years old, or age 16 with parental consent.
High school diploma, or equivalent (if applicable).
Eligible to work in the United States – we love local, national, and international students!
Active student, or graduated August 2023 or later.
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates currently working toward a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or closely related field.
About Everything Else
Program Dates: The 2024 internship program will begin on May 20, 2024 and end on August 9, 2024.
Internship Hours: 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; some departments vary.
Pay Range: $13 per hour (high school student) up to $20 per hour (Grad/Masters student), based on your credit hours earned.
