Robert Half is looking for a temporary Financial Aid Clerk for a company located in San Luis Obispo. Robert Half is hiring candidates who are organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and capable of speedy and accurate data entry. The Financial Aid Clerk's duties include collaborating with assigned administrators and distributing information to the community and students regarding federal and state financial aid programs. You would be responsible for receiving and processing financial aid applications, ensuring eligibility, and providing assistance to students and staff in navigating the application process.
How you will make an impact:
Serve as a valuable resource to students, parents, and staff, addressing inquiries and providing expertise through various channels such as in-person interactions at the front counter, virtual platforms, email, and workshops.
Conduct eligibility determinations and verification processes for federal, state, and local aid programs.
Advise and assist prospective, continuing, and returning students, as well as parents, regarding the availability of diverse financial aid programs and guide them through the application process.
Participate in community outreach activities and on-campus events to promote financial aid and enrollment services. Conduct presentations and workshops to raise awareness about financial aid availability and encourage student applications.
Provide individualized guidance to students on eligibility requirements, Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), and the resolution of unique student circumstances.
Disseminate information on federal and state financial aid programs, ensuring students and stakeholders are well-informed.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures related to financial aid programs. Analyze policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
Perform clerical tasks related to determining eligibility and awarding financial aid.
Identify and research potential problems, making recommendations for action.
Collect and analyze data to inform decision-making processes.
Correspond with staff, students, parents, and various agencies, including the California Student Aid Commission, the U.S. Department of Education, and the county Department of Social Services to resolve conflicts of information and address concerns related to financial aid.
Facilitate program coordination with key campus offices, including the Business Office, Admissions and Registration, Bookstore, and EOPS/CARE & CalWORKs.
Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
1+ year of clerical or relevant experience.
Proven experience in financial aid administration, eligibility determination, and verification processes.
Comprehensive understanding of federal, state, and local financial aid programs and regulations.
Strong advisory and communication skills to effectively assist and guide students, parents, and staff.
Demonstrated ability to engage in community outreach activities and promote financial aid services.
Experience conducting presentations and workshops to inform and encourage student participation in financial aid programs.
Thorough knowledge of laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures related to financial aid programs.
Strong analytical skills for problem identification, resolution, and data analysis.
Effective correspondence abilities with staff, students, parents, and various agencies to resolve conflicts and address concerns related to financial aid.
Proven ability to collaborate with key campus offices and facilitate program coordination.
Strong organizational skills to perform clerical tasks related to eligibility determination and financial aid awarding.
Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and take on additional duties as required.
Bilingual in Spanish or previous experience using the software Ellucian Banner would be preferred but not necessary!
