  Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

  Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Two (2) years of experience working at a higher education institution, either as a full-time employee or with student work study experience. Experience interacting with students and their families. Strong customer service skills. Experience in presenting, training, and/or conducting workshops. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, etc. Preferred Qualifications:

  Master's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Full-time financial aid experience, including a working knowledge and understanding of financial aid programs. Experience advising students and/or families on financial aid processes. Financial Aid experience within the SUNY or NY State University system. Experience with Degree Audit, Academic Advising, Transfer Center, and/or Registrar's Office in Higher Education. Familiarity with academic certification compliance for state-wide tuition assistance financial aid programs, with a preference for TAP or NYS Scholarship-related experience. Proficiency in using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software for large organizations. Brief Description of Duties:

  The Financial Aid Advisor represents the university at recruitment functions and must possess excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, along with strong organizational and time-management abilities, while also demonstrating exceptional attention to detail. The role involves processing work focused on reviewing TAP/Excelsior student recipient records to determine eligibility and academic certification for funds from New York State. This includes managing the functional and technical aspects of the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) and Excelsior Scholarship Certification to ensure compliance with regulations. The advisor will work independently and collaboratively within a team, emphasizing a collaborative approach to problem-solving. Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are essential, coupled with strategic and analytical thinking for effective decision-making in this dynamic position.Duties:

  General Financial Aid:Assist in the review of student/family income analysis to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Review and evaluate financial aid applications for eligibility in accordance with appropriate regulations and policies.Advise students and families about financial aid applications, awards, and general financial aid processes. Assist appropriate financial aid leadership team members in the administration of special programs including but not limited to: financial Aid Communications, SAP, outreach, R2T4, verification, professional judgment, etc. Work with the Customer Service Team to improve the office's proactive approach for student outreach regarding their financial aid processes. Professionally communicate with students over the phone, via email, and in-person regarding missing documents and the impact effect on their financial aid. Perform strategic outreach to ensure student response and timely submission of financial aid documents. Conduct financial aid workshops and orientations virtually and in-person as needed.New York State Aid:Serve as a TAP, Excelsior, and HESC Certification Officer for Student Financial Aid by demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of statewide higher education tuition assistance regulations, focusing on both NYS TAP and Excelsior Scholarships. Staying informed and up-to-date on policies and procedures for student eligibility, ensuring timely incorporation of any policy changes into business processes, including office practices and system programming to support compliance changes. The Financial Aid Advisor for TAP Certification will manage adjustments to previous certifications, request residency questionnaires, and electronically submit files to HESC. As a TAP, Excelsior, and scholarship certification officer, the incumbent will conduct a meticulous review of student records, emphasizing credit requirements for degree pursuit. This involves analyzing records, cross-referencing with the Undergraduate Bulletin, communicating with students and academic departments, documenting interactions, and re-reviewing records post-schedule adjustments. Staying current with HESC rules is crucial for informed certification decisions. The certifying officer is accountable for collaboration with DoIT programmers to implement and enforce program guideline changes. Adherence to current rules and regulations is essential, both programmatically and in cases where manual processing is required. The incumbent is responsible for the weekly submission of electronic files to HESC for certification processes in Albany. The Financial Aid Advisor will offer support for TAP, Excelsior, and scholarship or award inquiries in Student Financial Aid. This includes assisting students who have applied for financial aid through TAP/Excelsior, addressing walk-ins, emails, phone calls, and corresponding with colleges and departments to address questions and issues. The Financial Aid Advisor will update the HESC system to reflect student certification status and update the student database system to document certification decisions.Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

  Special Notes:

  This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
