The Federal Systems Technology department of the USFGMD is responsible for service supporting a charter of implementing and integrating complex systems sold worldwide to the US Federal Government. As a USFGMD Field Upgrade Engineer, you will be exposed to a wide variety of communications requirements in both the Presale and Post Sale phases of a project. These applications span the entire breadth of the US Federal Government throughout the world.Job DescriptionSCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Act as Field Upgrade Engineer on large projects or system upgrades, capable of directing self and other assigned project STs.Assist Upgrade Operations by implementing field upgrades at the Core and Remote Sites.Performs specific system configuration, programming, optimization, testing, and documentation tasks.Works with other UO Engineers, System Technologists (STs), System Managers, Project Managers, Tech Support, Product Groups, and/or others in the characterization of system defects during system implementation and, on occasion, during the upgrade and maintenance phase.Team with Engineering, Project Management, Customer Support Managers and Account Executives to effectively maintain, optimize and support advanced communication systems which meet or exceed customer expectations.Responsibilities include optimizing, supporting, maintaining, testing, and documentation of complex communications systems.Provide technical support of specialized systems and product applications, including advanced troubleshooting of software-driven electronics, provisioning of communication system infrastructure, and performance optimization of RF and Broadband architecture including, but not limited to, legacy analog, advanced digital P25, and data infrastructure.Provide daily and weekly reports of activities and accomplishments.Perform system audits and assist with preparing a system for an upgrade.Assist 3rd Party Vendors by providing onsite support with implementing their upgrades into Motorola Systems.Develop solutions to difficult technical problems encountered during system maintenance, upgrades, or support issues.Total familiarity with the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques.Very strong knowledge of wired communications systems, such as local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN), must be proficient in computer network installation, configuration, and maintenance systems to include cabling, routers (Juniper), switches (Aruba), firewalls (Juniper), and bridges.Capable of performing maintenance of server hardware/OS and software infrastructure and troubleshooting to resolve system/application-related issues.Strong knowledge of R.F. systems, such as transmitters, receivers, and antenna networksStrong knowledge of standard telephony and dedicated data circuits, as well as knowledge of packet-switching techniquesHighly computer literate with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and AccessStrong self-management skills and "people" skills to work closely with Motorola's customers and subcontractor (MSS) community, as well as Motorola Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and customer service teamsSelf-motivated and self-managed to perform the required duties at a distance from direct supervisionAble to solve customer problems quickly during stressful situationsMust have superior knowledge of one or more of the following; Motorola Conventional,Trunking, MCC Console systems, Secure Operations, and ASTRO 20.x Digital systems and installation procedures.Experience with logging recording systems, RF interfaces, wired/wireless communications systems, and networking equipmentUnique combinations of strong multi-site RF communications systems and computer/networking skills are required.The ideal candidate must demonstrate high-level systems expertise and have a minimum of 6 years of related experience with the following equipment:Motorola Base Stations (STR series, GTR series, etc.)MPLS and cloud based CircuitsComputer IP Networks and ConfigurationExperience working with RF Infrastructure Technologies, including Motorola Console Systems, ASTRO Conventional, and Trunked equipment, is strongly preferred.The Candidate must have excellent skills in the use of various communications test equipment, including Communication System Analyzers, Ethernet Link test sets, T1 Test Sets, Wireshark et al.Ideally, the individual should have at least one network certification: Network +, Security +, or a related certification.Excellent communication skills and always present a professional image.

Candidate can live anywhere in the United StatesExtensive travel is required, with up to 75% travel.Willing to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules.Must be willing and capable of meeting the requirements to obtain a DoD Secret ClearanceMust be willing and capable of meeting the requirements to obtain a DHS Public Trust ClearanceMust have a current, valid driver's license and no major traffic violations.Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain background clearance as required by a US government customer.CompTIA Security+ or must be able to obtain it within the 1st year of employment.
This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.
Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract.
