Job duties may require split, evening and/or night shifts spanning twocalendar days due to crop demands. Work hours may vary and there may beperiods when little or no work will be available due to weather, time ofyear, and the requirements of the cropping program. Instruction,training, and general supervision will be provided by the farm operatoror a designated employee. However, the worker must perform requiredduties without close supervision and listen to, understand, and followsimple instructions of the employer or supervisor. The worker will berequired to return worn out tools, supplies, and equipment before newones will be provided. Most duties are performed out of doors and entailexposure to heat, cold, dust, rain, and other environmental conditionscommon in fields, including mosquitoes during certain seasons. Theworker must crouch, bend, and lift and carry items weighing up to 100pounds in course of performing required activities.
Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to theproduction of alfalfa, beans, wheat, timothy-hay, corn, sunflowers,barley and oats. The majority of the work activities during the overallcontract period, however, will be related to general farmwork/irrigation/crop production.
General Farm Work will include the following responsibilities: maintain,drive, attach and operate farm implements/tractors/equipment to tillsoil, plant, cultivate, fertilize and harvest crops; clean/washmachinery/farm vehicles; may mix and/or spray chemicals (according toappropriate restrictive use laws, when/if applicable); make minormechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery; remove undesirableand excess growth from crops or farm grounds; remove rocks from field;Inspect, maintain, and repair equipment, machinery, buildings, pens,yards, and fences; perform general cleanup of farm areas; drive,load/unload Ag exempt, non CDL 10-wheel trucks; operate motor bike orall-terrain vehicle in the course of performing duties; trap and destroypests, such as moles, gophers, and mice, using pesticides; hand sprayweeds along roadsides, ditches and mainlines; workers possessing theproper licensure may be asked to transport other farm workers.
Irrigation duties will include the following:
Hand lines: connect pipes; check alignment of pipe and adjust for properwater distribution; attach lines to water supply; turn on pump; turnvalves to start flow of water; disassemble lines and carry pipes acrossfields at specified intervals; move pipes through freshly irrigatedcrops and/or plowed fields where mud may be deep at times; lift andcarry pipe sections weighing approximately 40 pounds on a sustainedbasis.
Wheel lines: start gasoline engines and operate controls to move linesacross fields at specified intervals.
Pivots: push on switch that activates circle sprinkler system; replacemotors, gearboxes and tires as needed.
Other Irrigation Duties: remove pipes/wheel lines from storage and layout/place in predetermined patterns in fields; lubricate, adjust, repairand replace parts such as sprinkler heads and drive chains using handtools; observe revolving sprinklers and adjust to ensure properoperation and uniform distribution of water; repair broken PVCstandpipes and lines; disassemble, service and storepipes/mainlines/wheel lines after irrigation season.
The worker may be offered work seven days a week, as farm work must beperformed seven days a week. The worker will be required, however, towork the minimum number of hours indicated. The worker may be offeredmore than the specified hours per day but is only required to work thehours specified. The worker may be requested, but will not be required,to work on his/her Sabbath and/or on Federal holidays.
