  Department Summary

The Office of the Provost (OTP) upholds, provides leadership on, and carries out the academic mission of the University. In service to this mission, the Office promotes and sustains the highest standards in teaching, research, and service; fosters and advocates for faculty; promotes a respectful work environment, equity and inclusion, and a family-friendly workplace; supports university initiatives, including student success; supports and coordinates matters that pertain to faculty, such as hiring, retention, professional development, promotion, and tenure processes; and advances university outreach and internationalization. The University of Oregon Teaching Engagement Program (TEP), a unit within the Office of the Provost, creates occasions for faculty and graduate student instructors to develop and refresh their pedagogy in dialogue with one another; to engage with campus, national, and scholarly conversations about excellence in higher education; and to use teaching insights to inform UO policy and core curriculum renewal.

  Position Summary

TEP Consultants design and deliver TEP’s faculty and graduate student instructor teaching development curriculum, ensuring it’s aligned with UO’s “inclusive, engaged, and research-informed” teaching quality standards and evaluation instruments. Specifically, they lead workshops, facilitate pathways of the UO Summer Teaching Institute, and organize “CAIT” groups—topical, stipended faculty leadership groups. They also support existing and emerging programs like the Provost’s Teaching Academy, instructional work to improve student success and close equity gaps, and a range of efforts meant to deepen inclusive teaching practices.

This position is also responsible for developing public-facing teaching resources linked to learning science research, the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, and UO research and assessment findings. TEP Consultants also observe classes and counsel units and individuals about aspects of teaching. This position reports to the Associate Vice Provost for Teaching Engagement.
