Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction
CLASSIFICATION: Administrator
REPORTS TO: Chief Academic Officer
SUPERVISES: Content Leads, Curriculum and Assessment, District Coaches, Curriculum Coaches, Professional Learning Coach, Support Staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Provide leadership and support for the systemic development, implementation and evaluation of an effective curriculum and assessment system for the Cedar Rapids Community School District.
Coordinate the development, maintenance, and articulation of all learning standards/expectations PK-12 in collaboration with the Curriculum Coaches.
Lead the understanding and implementation of the Instructional Framework.
Develop District Professional Development Plan and Calendar.
Work collaboratively within the Office of Learning and Leadership to facilitate the implementation of educational programs.
Ensure alignment of District curriculum with Iowa Core Curriculum.
Ensure implementation of Curriculum with fidelity.
Collaborate with the Work Based Learning Coordinator to integrate work based learning and career/college readiness into the Curriculum and Assessment design process
Work collaboratively with technology staff to integrate appropriate technologies into the curricular program.
Facilitate the communication of the curriculum, professional development, instructional practices and TLC, to all stakeholders, (staff, students, community, Board of Directors)
Supervise and evaluate department staff members in collaboration with the Curriculum Coaches and District Coaches.
Coordinate the adoption, implementation, budgeting, and evaluation of the District curriculum and assessment materials.
Coordinate, develop, review, and evaluate the District assessment procedures, practices, and programs.
Provide analysis of assessment data for the District stakeholders
Coordinate Assessment Summit with the Office of Academics.
Facilitate submission of state and federal reports via a collaborative process with appropriate District staff .
Oversee required reporting at the District, state and federal level to ensure the integrity of the data.
Assist in the development, implementation, and review of all board policies regarding curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
Oversee the English Language Learning program in collaboration with the Curriculum Coaches and Director of Innovation
Oversee the Early Childhood Program in partnership with the early childhood principal and Director of Innovation.
Oversee Title 1 Programming with the Director of Innovation analyzing building and teacher data and make adjustments for continuous growth.
Oversee the Cedar Rapids Homeschool Assistance Program in collaboration with the Curriculum Coaches
Review the TLC plan and make revisions yearly based on data and needs of staff and students.
Engage in professional learning opportunities to promote and support professional learning and District initiatives.
Perform other duties as may be assigned.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS/APTITUDES
Ability to communicate with and build positive relationships with ELSC staff, administrators, school staff, parents, and community members.
Ability to effectively present information orally and respond to questions from administrators, teachers, staff and students.
Effective oral and written communication. Proficiency in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and related communication skills, including proofreading, editing, and creating original documents.
Excellent written and oral communication skills via electronic, telecommunications, or personal interactions.
Ability to problem solve independently and with others, take initiative, and work independently without supervision.
Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and implement ideas contained in technical documents, assessment data, professional journals, policies, procedures, and regulations.
Ability to perform basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals and fractions.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Professional Software (Excel, PowerPoint and Word), Internet technology, and Google Suite.
Demonstrated commitment to report to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
Ability to organize, prioritize, and assume responsibility.
Capacity to represent the District in a professional manner, which includes but not limited to confidentiality, collegiality, and the ability to obtain and utilize additional training, if necessary.Ability to energize and inspire as a servant leader.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

SALARY: $135,000.00
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Master’s in Administration or Curriculum and Instruction and current evaluator approval license
Background and knowledge of Iowa Core Curriculum and categorical funding.
Knowledge and experience of curriculum development, balanced assessment systems, instructional best practices, and implementing a framework
Experience working in a collaborative setting
Knowledge of current educational trends and accountability measures.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and implement ideas contained in technical documents, reports, regulations, etc. Ability to effectively write reports and communications to administrators, colleagues, parents, students and staff. Ability to effectively present information orally and respond to questions from administrators, teachers, staff and students.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to perform basic mathematical functions. Ability to use spreadsheets and reporting documents that assist with the computation of data.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve problems effectively. Ability to interpret and implement a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, colleagues, community members, staff and students. The noise level in the work environment is often quiet but may become loud in large group settings. The position requires the commitment of professional working hours that will require the employee arrive and leave as directed and may require the employee to extend beyond a typical 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. workday. The employee will usually work in indoor temperatures but will be required to work occasionally in outdoor environments.
