  What is Easter Seals Lonestar

  Easterseals Lonestar is a multi-facted social services provider focused on services to currently provides over 8,500 local children and adults - and their caregivers- with quality, person-centered services and support. Children and adults receiving individual care by Easterseals Central Texas are challenged by a variety of disabilities including: autism, developmental and learning delays; speech, language and hearing disorders; sensory processing disorders; mental illness, stroke, head trauma, amputation, spinal cord injury, polio, cerebral palsy, spina bifida and muscular dystrophy as well as various genetic disorders with high risks for developmental delay. Our services are focused into multiple areas of care that create successful outcomes for clients from birth to advanced age: Outpatient Medical Rehabilitation, Workforce Development and Community & Housing Services.

  ES Lonestar began in 1937 as the Texas Society for Crippled Children. In 1949, a small building was dedicated as the Austin Cerebral Palsy Center serving a small population of Central Texas residents. Almost twenty years later, it became the Capital Area Rehabilitation Center, expanding its services, programs and persons served.

  In 1985, the Capital Area Rehabilitation Center became an official affiliate of the Easter Seals National and was renamed The Capital Area Easter Seals Society. Finally, in 1998, the name was changed to Easter Seals Central Texas (ESCT), and in 2006, ESCT opened its Hays County Workforce Development office.

  ES Lonestar is a part of national Easterseals and is a subsidiary of the Fedcap Group.

  JOB PURPOSE

  The ED will be joining at a pivotal period marked by great institutional opportunity, need, and positive momentum from a programming, reputation, and historical community standpoint. Leveraging the existing strengths in place while propelling the organization forward, the new ED will play a critical role in enhancing the visibility and support for this outstanding service provider that has been helping families live with dignity, respect, and independence.

  JOB SUMMARY

  The ED will support programmatic leadership, build stakeholder relationships, and effectively articulate the vision, mission and work to all community, current, and potential funders to expand the overall reach. The ED will also be responsible for maintaining an appropriate pipeline of new business opportunities in the following the geographic areas: Dallas/Fort Worth, Waco, Temple, Greater Austin, Corpus Christi, Lubbock, Midland/Odessa, Longview/Tyler, and El Paso. With the support of an extremely capable, accomplished, and dedicated team, the ED is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, ensuring a sustainable funding model is in place, and providing strategic leadership and direction in delivering on the ESLS mission. As ESLS looks to expand its overall impact and reach, they need an astute leader who can effectively steward the ESLS brand by clearly and compassionately communicating the value and interest of the organization and its critical presence to the media and broader community. Working with a tremendously supportive team, the ED must work to maintain and continue to raise the quality of programs and services offered, increase the number of people served, and expand sources of revenue with a focus on individual and corporate giving.

  ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

  Drive the formulation of strategic growth plans, setting ambitious targets and guiding the organization in achieving these mission and business objectives.

  Partner with the and Board on the strategic visioning and short and long-term planning to support the growth and expansion of the organization.

  Growing top line revenue, establish innovative sources of income, and drive sustainable growth.

  Leverage, develop, and retain a talented, diverse, and dedicated team to attain desired organization goals and results. Cultivate a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and welcoming culture.

  Lead collective impact outcomes by calling upon and collaborating with different businesses, non-profits, and philanthropic organizations.

  Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Board of Directors, staff, community groups, and other related agencies.

  Build and sustain effective relationships with key local constituencies including local associations, peer organizations, government agencies funding sources, and the media.

  Provide strategic oversight to financial and physical resources in a way that promotes and supports ESLS’s core values and missions for generations to come.

  QUALIFICATIONS

  Education

  Bachelor’s Degree or higher. Master’s preferred.Work Conditions

  Work is typically performed in an office environment but the incumbent may be required to perform job duties outside of the office setting.Special Schedule

  Normal schedule is standard business hours Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm; At times, must be willing to work in excess of 40 hours per week as driven by operational needs.Travel Demands

  Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required as needed to support the objectives of business units within the portfolio.Prior Experience

  Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills coupled with the ability to relate and engage with staff, leadership team, supporters, colleagues, and Board members. ·

  A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible strategic leadership experience overseeing business and financial operations of a nonprofit organization.

  Experience in articulating strategic goals and performance indicators to all levels of staff and Board. ·

  Understanding and experience in leveraging the expertise of executive team and functional staff leadership. ·

  Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to mentor, motivate, and encourage dedicated and passionate staff around goals. ·

  Strong quantifiable success in fundraising across private, public, and governmental sectors. ·Proven management, business, and financial acumen within an organization of similar scale of complexity and funding models.

  Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with an infectious enthusiasm for the Easterseals mission and the ability to engage and inspire others.

  Ability to plan organization-wide activities and work with the Board of Directors, Easterseals stakeholders, government agencies, community groups and others, as necessary.

  Knowledge of grant administration, contract negotiations/administration, community organizations and principles of marketing/public relations and media.

  Charisma and effective communication skills culminating in a strong advocate for the organization who will safeguard the mission of Easterseals.

  Among their services: early intervention, inclusive childcare, medical rehabilitation and autism services for young children and their families; job training and coaching, employment placement and transportation services for adults with disabilities, including veterans; adult day services and employment opportunities for older adults – in addition to a variety of additional services for people of all ages including mental health and recovery programs, assistive technology, camp and recreation, caregiving support including respite – and much more.

  Additionally, we’ve served transitioning military, veterans and their families and caregivers since WWII and continue to be the “go to” resource for them to help ensure their successful transition to civilian life.

  History of National Easterseals:

  In 1907, Ohio-businessman Edgar Allen lost his son in a streetcar accident. The lack of adequate medical services available to save his son prompted Allen to sell his business and begin a fund-raising campaign to build a hospital in his hometown of Elyria, Ohio. Through this new hospital, Allen was surprised to learn that children with disabilities were often hidden from public view. Inspired to make a difference, in 1919 Allen founded the National Society for Crippled Children, the first organization of its kind.

  In the spring of 1934, the organization launched its first Easter "seals" campaign to raise money for its services. To show their support, donors placed seals on envelopes and letters. Cleveland Plain Dealer cartoonist J.H. Donahey designed the first seal. Donahey based the design on a concept of simplicity because those served by the charity asked, "simply for the right to live a normal life." The lily - a symbol of spring - was officially incorporated as the National Society for Crippled Children’s logo in 1952 for its association with new life and new beginnings.
