  Job Description:This position involves the receiving, processing, and final disposition of physical evidence.The processing includes, but is not limited to, the chain of custody documentation, labeling, storing, retrieving, transferring, and returning/discarding of physical evidence. Specialists will frequently receive and verify evidence, complete chain of custody and related documentation, log forensic evidence into LIMS, and perform support activities within the department.Requirements:*Minimum high school diploma or equivalent*Minimum of 1 year of clerical experience required.*Laboratory, or evidence handling experience preferred.*Knowledge of MS Office Suite*Proficiency in typing/data entry skills required.

  Major Duties and Responsibilities:Independently receives, processes, and stores evidence from law enforcement agencies and other clients through various delivery methods.*Completes and maintains the chain of custody documentation on all evidence.*Remediates seals upon receipt, as necessary, ensuring integrity of evidence.*Prepares all other documentation necessary for the storage, testing, and release of evidence.*Enters client data into LIMS and reviews case history of evidence.*Monitors LIMS queues, backlog reports, and case communications.*Communicates with external clients and laboratories, and internal departments.*Returns evidence in accordance with standard operating procedures, accrediting bodies' requirements, and legal statutes.*Maintains an organized, accessible, and logical evidence storage system.*Maintains and ensures the security of all evidence storage locations and client information.*Provides testimony in court, as required.*Prepares, ships, and tracks chain of custody on evidence samples sent for outsource testing.*Provides assistance to Client Services and Expert Services as needed.*Works with Property & Evidence Supervisor and other team members to identify problems and recommend solutions.*Assists with the discard of evidence in accordance with standard operating procedures, accrediting bodies' requirements, and legal statutes.*Maintains regular and reliable attendance.*Other duties as assigned.

  Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:*Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.*Knowledgeable of chain of custody procedures preferred.*Knowledge of proper evidence sealing procedures preferred.*Exhibit professional and effective interpersonal skills.*Ability to adapt quickly to changes.*Ability to read and comprehend regulations and standard operating procedures and apply them to work operations.*Must be flexible in scheduling and available for overtime as required.*Good customer service skills, ability to work as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision.*Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work with a high degree of accuracy and integrity.*Must have the ability to time manage and multi-task.*Clear and legible handwriting.

  Physical Demands:*Ability to talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to manipulate computer keyboard, objects, or controls.*Requires walking from one work location to another throughout the shift.*Sitting and standing for up to e tended periods of time.*Lifting and carrying objects up to 50 pounds*Ability to travel as needed for court testimony.*Specific vision abilities (with correction) include close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.*Exposure to intermittent or constant sounds generated by equipment.*Exposure to fumes, noxious odors, and dust*Handling of biological material and blood-borne pathogens*Handling of toxic or caustic chemicals
