We are a psychiatric consult and liaison program within a medical hospital at UPMC Jameson. We work with patients of all ages in the ED and on medical floors completing psychiatric assessments, referrals, and support.
The Evaluator Clinician Nurse will perform charge RN or bed search and direct admission responsibilities competently and effectively in either an emergency setting, Consult & Liaison service, or Psych Care Plus setting by providing triage and psychiatric assessments. Participate with management in Program Development and Performance Improvement Activities. Complete assigned projects, reports, and statistics in a timely manner.
Responsibilities:
· Maintain competency requirements. Attend 10 unit based or institute wide in-services yearly. Serve as mentor to students and new employees. Learn and utilizes up-to-date technology in delivery of patient care.
· Participate in interdisciplinary activities such as staff meetings and other committees as assigned. Demonstrate knowledge of inclusion criteria/protocols for current research programs.
· Perform charge RN or bed search and direct admission responsibilities competently and effectively based upon settings. Participate with unit management in Program Development and Performance Improvement Activities. Complete assigned projects, reports, and statistics in a timely manner.
· Maintain current knowledge of medications, including side effects, dosage and patient response. Complete medication administration safely and accurately, including transcription, administration, and documentation according to established policies. Adhere to NSG Standards and Policies including ANA Standards for Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing, ANA Professional Code for Nurses, the WPIC policies and procedures and the Nurse Practice Act. Perform point of care testing specific to unit. Demonstrate ability to provide psychiatric and medical education to patients, families, and staff.
· Complete patient/family assessments referred to emergency services for presentation to the attending/resident psychiatrist. Meet standards for documentation and completes all required paperwork, including PEF, commitment paperwork. Demonstrate ability to utilize DSMIV and to develop provisional diagnosis. Perform triage/medical screening and prioritize patients based on acuity. Demonstrate knowledge of mental health laws; obtain appropriate consents or commitment authorizations as needed. Demonstrate knowledge of insurance programs, processes and able to obtain authorizations as needed. Manage crisis situations effectively using positive approaches; assist in maintaining safe environment.
· Graduation from an approved School of Nursing which confers Diploma, AD, or BSN in nursing.
· Current nursing licensure in Pennsylvania or pursuance thereof.
· 6 months of experience in Clinical Psychiatry preferred.
· Successful completion of central and unit specific orientation program including the medication proficiency examination.
· Require physically capabilities of providing direct total physical care to unpredictable, potentially violent, mentally ill patients as necessary including lifting, supporting, running towards or away from areas where problems are occurring, and pushing and pulling equipment, such as wheelchairs, stretchers, and beds.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

· Registered Nurse (RN)
· Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
· Act 33 with renewal
