Job Title: ER, Capability & Safeguarding Advisor

JOB PURPOSE
This is an excellent opportunity to come and work within the Employment Excellence Team at Unilever as an ER, Capability and Safeguarding Advisor.
The role will suit an individual who is looking to have a specialist focus on ER but also wishes to use their passion and expertise to deliver our capability agenda for our HR Community. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a solid background in HR with a track record of managing complex ER Cases and experience in delivering high quality training to large audiences.
The successful candidate will report to the Employee Relations Partner UK&I.
The Employment Excellence Team
The Employment Excellence Team is a specialist team within the UK&I business. As an overview we cover the following pillars: employee and industrial relations, capability, safeguarding, policy and practice, immigration, and EDI. Our team is imperative in ensuring we play a supportive role in fulfilling business goals in a way which minimises risk, legally and reputationally, and maximises our human approach. Keeping Unilever values at our core in all our activities.
The candidate must be in a commutable distance at either our Port Sunlight Office or at our Kingston Campus. However, do note that as a team we meet once a month in the South (Kingston) for our Team Meeting so travel will be required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
ER
Providing strong and carefully thought-out advice to HR professionals across the business as a 1st line of escalation. Focusing on the risks, both legal and reputational and providing pragmatic advice. Escalating to the ER Partner when it is high risk/high complex.
Responsible for the management and processing of legal billings for our legal counsel.
Effectively be able to coach our HR community in ER cases, challenge their thinking and approach in a constructive and supportive way.
Shadowing the ER Partner in case management calls to embed your own learning and development.
Capability
Drive the learning and development agenda to ensure our People Partners and other stakeholders have access to learning and growth opportunities in employee/industrial relations knowledge and practice.
Be responsible for the management of our monthly ER and quarterly HR Business Partner forums; where we coach, advise and provide legislative updates.
Safeguarding
Providing advice and support, as a 1st line of escalation to individuals raising Safeguarding concerns.
Raising the profile and awareness of Safeguarding at Unilever, alongside our EET Apprentice, in “Keeping People Safe at Unilever”.
Deliver Safeguarding Representative training.
Act as the Deputy Safeguarding Officer.
ALL ABOUT YOU
Experience
ER/IR: Strong experience in an employee relations advisor role with management of both employee and industrial relation matters, end-end process.
ER/IR: Deep and up to date knowledge and a passion for understanding employment law and its practical application.
ER/IR: Experience of supporting with letters, reports, case analysis and presenting in an articulate way legal or reputational risks.
Capability: Experience in delivering capability/training programmes on HR process. For example, complex case management training, discrimination training, disciplinary investigation training etc.
Capability: A strong background of coaching colleagues, i.e., line managers or other HR Professionals.
Desirable
Safeguarding: Exposure in Safeguarding in an employee context (training will be provided)
ER/IR: Involvement in employment tribunals and or civil proceedings.
ER/IR: Experience in a FMCG environment and strong engagement with Trade Unions.
Skills
Can identify legal and reputational risks.
Ability to influence and possess strong stakeholder management skills.
Strong communication, coaching and teamwork skills.
Critical thinking and the ability to focus on all possibilities and plan; accordingly, being able to solve problems quickly.
A keen eye for detail.
Proactive approach to case management and ability to lean in to support the wider Employment Excellence Team.
Multi focusing and time management.

Recruitment Fraud
Cyber criminals advertise fake job adverts with prestigious employers as a way of stealing information or even defrauding individuals out of money. In the most sophisticated cases, they will set up fake websites, which have a similar address to companies like Unilever. They even conduct fake telephone interviews and then offer candidates a role with the proviso they pay a fee for background checks or to cover work visa costs. These types of attacks are becoming more common as more people are looking for employment in the economic climate.
How is Unilever tackling this?
Many of Unilever’s recruitment sites publish a warning to candidates about recruitment fraud. The Cyber Security team also proactively scan for signs of people setting up fake Unilever sites and act to close them down.
