The Position

Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Sustainable Materials Management is seeking qualified applicants for two Environmental Scientist 3 positions. As part of the sustainability branch, the selected candidates will look for opportunities to reduce environmental impacts across the state and cultivate a systematic approach for using and reusing materials throughout their life cycle. These positions will play a key role in shaping sustainability programs throughout Nevada. These positions will create, improve, and streamline practices for recycling, managing organics, discarding waste, and other sustainability projects as they relate to each project. On the ground level, these positions perform site visits to recycling facilities and state agency locations, assist stakeholders, research and draft sustainability and recycling reports, provide technical assistance for recycling and sustainability programs, and further sustainability projects with interested stakeholders. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and three years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research and planning; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of professional environmental experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.Special Requirements

This position has a 25% travel requirement. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.The Examination
