DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:As the EHS Site Leader , you will be responsible for leading and managing site environmental health and safety (EHS) programs and ensuring implementation of PPG's EHS Management System. Located at the Springdale, PA Research and Development Center, you will report to PPG Springdale Industrial Coatings EHS Manager with dotted line accountability to the Springdale R&D Plant Manager. As a visible member of the R&D site management team, you will be responsible for the entire R&D and Pilot Plant facility. Prime success factors include the ability to influence, communicate, plan and organize, resolve conflicts and promote a strong safety culture.
Key Responsibilities* Provide leadership and direction in support of PPG EHS policies and EHS goals established by the Science and Technology (S&T) strategic business unit.* Provide leadership, support and guidance to the management team in the development of site-specific EHS goals and improvement plans to ensure the overall EHS performance of the site.* Facilitate and support multiple site safety teams and committees; participate in strategic initiatives in areas of safety, environmental, health, industrial hygiene and security, compliance, emergency response and community engagement.* Provides guidance, agency contact, technical assistance and project support to ensure legal compliance with PPG and regulatory requirements.* Identify safety/health/environmental hazards inherent in PPG operations and establish plans for the control of those hazards.* Monitor site EHS performance and analyze reports for trends and conditions; recommend priorities and actions for improvement.* Audit safety/health/environmental programs for compliance with company standards and government regulations.* Review and approve capital requisitions and conduct associated risk assessments; evaluate equipment and processes and recommend effective safety control strategies.* Support and help implement OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) programs; partner with Development Engineers to ensure PSM compliance and completion of Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs).* Prepare and submit environmental reports and permits in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.* Oversee all EHS regulatory issues, including compliance with OSHA, EPA, Department of Transportation (DOT) and other federal, state and local standards.
Qualifications* A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Safety Management, Safety Sciences, Environmental Management or related discipline.* 5 - 10 years of experience in EHS functions in a manufacturing or research and development facility.* Technical areas: industrial safety, occupational health, chemical safety, waste management, air permitting, electrical safety, fire protection, machine guarding, loss prevention, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, ventilation systems, workers compensation, and process safety.* Professional designation as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.* Demonstrate flexibility and the willingness to work in a shared services environment and ability to conduct limited support to the Springdale Industrial Coatings Plant and other R&D sites in the Pittsburgh region.
