Responsible for performing all forms of neurophysiological testing of adult/geriatric patients which includes EEG, diagnostic Evoked Potentials, and Intraoperative Somatosensory Monitoring.
Job Description:
1. Department Specific Responsibilities: Performs technical aspects of neurophysiological testing (45)
Conducts initial patient screening. This includes baseline testing to establish parameters before anesthesia is administered.
Performs EEG’s demonstrating technical proficiency in the performance of these tests as evidenced by the quality of the test results.
Performs diagnostic evoked potentials.
Performs intraoperative monitoring which includes ascending somatosensory and descending motors.
The patient CNS is monitored continuously throughout the surgical procedure. If any potentials become degraded the surgeon is alerted immediately and a “wake-up” is done.
2. Performance of other duties
Maintains equipment in reliable and safe working order. Makes recommendations to Nurse Manager regarding new procedures, additional capital equipment and other matters relating to the department.
Performs minor repairs as needed and schedules routine and emergency service calls.
Maintains own patient scheduling.
Responsible for computer entry of patient charges for all neurological testing done.
3. Planning and organizational skills
Maintains a clean, organized work area and keeps working supplies stocked.
Maintains inventory of supplies for equipment and patient care needs.
Organizes workload to expedite patient care.
4. Verbal and interpersonal skills
Teamwork: Interacts with fellow workers in a way that promotes a harmonious and cooperative working environment.
Demonstrates effective communication skills by conveying necessary infomation accurately, listening effectively, asking pertinent questions, etc.
Always greets patients in a courteous manner, responds to patients with empathy and positive interpersonal skills.
Continually maintains a positive working rapport with physicians, nursing and other hospital personnel.
Respects at all times the confidentiality of patient records and uses complete discretion when discussing patient matters.
5. Judgment and Decision Making
Consistently demonstrates an ability to assess situations, consider alternatives and choose the appropriate course of action, where written and/or verbal instruction are not available.
Prioritizes testing requests when Conflicts arise.
6. Maintains current knowledge of infection control procedures for non-invasive testing with regard to patients and equipment as designated by the New England Baptist Hospital.
Participates in annual review of infection control policies and procedures.
Observes infection control policies when interacting with patients (i.e. universal precautions)
Plans time away from work appropriately
Arrives and leaves at designated times.
Uses unplanned earned time appropriately.(Based on full time hours. Standards are pro-rated for part-time employees based on agreed hours.
Performs other related duties as required.
