  Position Summary:

  The Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University seeks an innovative and dynamic emergency medicine physician to join our core faculty at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

  The mission of the Schmidt College of Medicine as a community-based medical school is to advance the health and well-being of our community by training future generations of humanistic clinicians and scientists and translating discovery to patient-centered care. We are committed to providing educational programs, in partnership with our hospital affiliates, that enable our medical students and residents to become active, self-directed, life-long learners; equip our graduates to effectively treat the patients that they are most likely to encounter in their practices; produce graduates with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and self-awareness required to practice effective, humanistic, patient-centered, evidence-based medicine; emphasize the centrality of collaborative relationships in the provision of the highest quality comprehensive health care; and foster and value collaboration among medical specialties, and between academic medicine and community health care professionals.

  The Emergency Medicine Residency Program Core Faculty – Assistant/Associate Professor will have the following specific responsibilities:

  Administer and maintain a positive educational environment for residents and faculty of the emergency medicine residency

  Help to ensure the quality of didactic and clinical education in emergency medicine to meet ACGME emergency medicine residency requirements in collaboration with the Emergency Medicine Program Director

  Assure compliance with all requirements as set forth by the ACGME and the Emergency Medicine Residency Review Committee in collaboration with the Emergency Medicine Program Director

  In collaboration with the Emergency Medicine Program Director provide each resident with documented semiannual evaluation of performance in a timely manner

  Participate in educational initiatives for medical students as opportunities arise

  Maintain clinical competence in the practice of emergency medicine, seeing your own patients through the College of Medicine Faculty Plan and supervising emergency medicine residents, other rotating residents, and medical students in the care of emergency medicine patients

  Serve as a member of the Clinical Competency Committee and Program Evaluation Committee

  Serve as a role model to residents and medical students as an emergency medicine physician with excellent clinical skills

  Maintain board certification in emergency medicine with continuing certification requirements for maintenance of certification

  Develop a career focus in scholarly activity and develop a portfolio of publications, presentations and academic focus over the next four years, reportable yearly in the electronic ACGME Web ADS. The ACGME scholarly requirements for core EM faculty are updated from time to time. You will be expected to maintain scholarly activity at or above requirements to maintain status as an EM core faculty

  Attend FAU emergency medicine residency conferences (including simulation) serving as a proctor/instructor when assigned by residency leadership

  Become an active member or maintain active involvement in a local, regional or national committee to help enhance the recognition and reputation of our residency and department

  Attend faculty development activities as recommended by the Emergency Medicine Residency Program Director, Designated Institutional Official (DIO) or Department Chair

  Complete special projects and perform other duties as assigned

  Minimum Qualifications:

  M.D. or D.O. from an accredited institution, credentials that merit appointment at the rank of assistant professor, and ABEM or ABOEM board certification in Emergency Medicine.

  Applicants must have significant teaching experience with residents and demonstrated teaching excellence.

  The preferred candidate has completed a fellowship in an emergency medicine sub-specialty (preference given to: global health, disaster medicine, wilderness medicine or sports medicine).

  The ability to effectively communicate with a variety of students, residents, fellows and employees from widely diverse backgrounds is required.

  Full unrestricted Florida medical license or ability to obtain license prior to start date and current DEA license. Ability to be credentialed for full clinical privileges at our partner hospitals.

  Current ACLS, PALS, BLS, and ATLS certifications.

  The selected candidate for this position is required to submit an official transcript sent directly from the institution for the Provost’s credential file prior to the first day of employment. Similarly, for degrees from outside the United States, the evaluation by an organization belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation (NACES), with an indication of the documents the evaluation was prepared from (official transcripts, diplomas, dissertation abstracts) is required for the Provost’s credential file prior to the first day of employment. Transcripts must be issued to Florida Atlantic University, not to the individual applicant.

  Background Screening:

  Selected candidates must successfully complete and pass all employment screenings prior to the start of employment. Employment screenings may include a criminal background check (level I and level II), motor vehicle check, credit check, reference checks, alcohol, and drug screening check.
