Description:
Electrical Engineering subject-matter expert (SME) to join the team and perform cradle-to-grave launch vehicle-centric hardware engineering. This entails being a part of the hardware development for multiple technical baselines and the associated operations planning, design engineering, ground support development, analysis, testing, integration, and launch/retrofit operations planning.
GSS hardware and software products enable tactical or flight test launch. GSS products support interceptor lifecycle activities such as emplacement in silos, periodic maintenance, and software upgrade. The GSS product architecture must be extensible to accommodate additional interceptor types and must be scalable to support large missile fields hosting a mixed fleet of interceptors. GSS manages critical pre-launch interceptor actions via mechanical, electrical, power and message interfaces to these interceptors. For Flight Tests, GSS products support interceptor range tracking and flight termination systems as well as pre and post launch telemetry interfaces. GSS products ensure operational readiness of interceptors and availability for mission tasking via its interface with GMD Fire Control (GFC). The GWS system provides missile defense capabilities that protect and defend the United States of America.
Job Duties: Based on specific objectives, perform analysis, electrical design engineering, and/or test of complex designs. Perform comprehensive review of internal, external and range requirements to support launch vehicle system level design and vehicle subsystem design. Perform detailed analyses to support/verify designs and conduct briefings to management and customers. Lead development, coordination, and execution of test programs required to evaluate the design.
Oversee component supplier design, analysis, manufacture, and test. Lead troubleshooting efforts and comprehensive failure investigations. Mentor other engineers from a technical standpoint as well as perform peer review. Collaborate early and often with other engineering disciplines and operations/manufacturing groups.
Job responsibilities:
• Defines technical solutions, prepares and presents electrical engineering materials for Requirements and Design Reviews; briefs leaders
• Studies basic design concepts and criteria for more complex problems
• Applies electrical engineering principles to adapt or improve upon heritage features from previous successful designs of a similar nature
• Perform qualification testing, characterization testing, troubleshooting, and test data review of completed designs • Perform data analysis to identify trends that may indicate out of tolerance or degraded part performance
• Perform testing to characterize off-nominal behavior of components
• Provides inputs into bill of materials (BOMs) and evaluates commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) parts for compliance
• Actively and effectively participates and contributes in a positive manner while supporting team decisions and goals
• Makes an extra effort to provide quality internal and external customer service
• Constantly seeks new sources of information and provides information necessary to meet customer needs
• Disciplined with escalation when required
