Initial training (3-4 weeks) will be during daytime hours. 100% Donor Coordination: Obtain and analyze donors past medical history and current medical circumstances to decide if tissue is suitable for procurement for transplant or research on a case-by-case basis. Determine potential donors' eligibility based upon Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA), and Minnesota Lions Eye Bank (MLEB) standards. Accurately enter donor information into database; ensure donor chart documentation is complete. Check state or regional donor registries to determine if donors previously completed documentation self-designating themselves as donors. Approach grieving donor families (via telephone) within hours of death and present the option of eye donation or disclose first person consent. Be compassionate to family in a crisis situation. Acquire legal, informed authorization for eye donation and donor medical/social history from knowledgeable person(s) including family and/or healthcare agent. Provide guidance and resources to ensure that eye tissue is procured, transported, and received in a manner that maintains viability for transplantation. Control flow of case management; both before and after recovery to maximize quality and viability of tissue. Identify and establish priorities when controlling work-flow and tissue supply. Multi-task effectively to maximize donation opportunities, ensure tissue viability, and help partners in donation meet their timelines (autopsy, other donation agencies, etc.). Consult supervisor, technical or medical director, physicians who treat donors, and funeral directors as needed. Resolve problems encountered during routine daily activities independently or with little supervision. Anticipated Annual Salary: $52,500 - $55,000, depending on qualifications Qualifications All required qualifications must be documented on application materials. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: BA/BS degree in biomedical science or healthcare or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least four years. Experience working in organ, tissue, or eye donation, or in a healthcare related field and direct patient contact. Experience prioritizing multiple tasks with varying/simultaneous deadlines. Documented experience in decision-making; problem-solving. Experience performing work independently and as a team. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and attention to detail; analytical. Experience using computers and software programs. Ability to work rotations of days, evenings, and night shifts (12:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.). PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working in a highly regulated medical field with a dynamic and challenging work environment. Knowledgeable about general disease processes, including signs and symptoms of infections and infectious diseases. Knowledge of eye anatomy. Experience working with people in crisis. Background working with medical records, and/or compliance/audit of charts, quality assurance and control. Basic understanding of HIPAA Guidelines, biohazard safety, and pertinent laws in coverage areas (Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin). Ability to type 45-50 words per minute.
