  Job Type: Officer of AdministrationRegular/Temporary: RegularHours Per Week: 35Salary Range: $96,000-$120,000The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

  Position Summary

  Reporting to Senior Director of Communications & Events, the Director owns the relationships related to events with Climate School staff and affiliates as well as external partners. They manage the planning and execution of Climate School stakeholder engagement, affiliate events, and designated communications, coordinating with internal and external partners to identify opportunities to showcase Climate School experts through public and private programming. This includes coordinating logistics, processes, scheduling, deadlines, and budgets for events and programs. The Director will be responsible for overall program management including advising on best practices and program development, sustainable event practices, as well overseeing logistical arrangements.

  Working in tandem with colleagues from media, web and design, the incumbent will manage internal processes and write, edit and consult in design of designated publications, emails and websites, as well as provide advice and support to Climate School centers and affiliates for promotion, email campaigns, and other public-facing communications.

  General communications duties include promoting Climate School activities through social media platforms, blog entries, multimedia and email communications.

  Supporting the School and team leadership, the incumbent will facilitate partnerships and strengthen institutional prestige. Through strategic oversight of Columbia Climate School events staff, the incumbent works to expand Climate School public outreach efforts through strategic engagement of key stakeholders, as well as expanding the Climate School's efforts at outreach in the surrounding environmental justice communities. Additional responsibilities include supervision of interns and event staff. Performs all other duties, as assigned by the Senior Director of Communications & Events.

  Responsibilities

  Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement

  Supporting the Senior Director of Communications & Events, the Director will facilitate partnerships and engagements that strengthen institutional prestige and increase the Climate School's external impact. This includes but is not limited to: supporting Climate School participation in high-profile initiatives and convenings like COP and Climate Week; facilitating and/or supporting regular engagement with policymakers, non-profit/NGOs, private sector leaders, community leaders, and other relevant stakeholders; contributing to program design for stakeholder convenings; supporting the creation and maintenance of a Climate School speakers' bureau to increase exposure for experts and researchers; and identifying new opportunities to advance Climate School core objectives.

  Internal Communications and Program Management

  The Director will coordinate across colleagues with the Communications department, the Climate School, and broader University community to set priorities; collaborate on program development; provide guidance; and develop and manage relevant program and communications processes, including related operational strategy, goal-setting, and evaluation.

  Public Programming & Events

  Manages the planning and execution of Climate School and affiliate events. This includes coordinating logistics, processes, deadlines, and budgets for events and programs. The Director will be responsible for overall event productions including advising on best practices and program development, , incorporating multi-media technology as well overseeing logistical arrangements including investigating venues, service providers, and vendors to support planning recommendations. Provides guidance and strategic oversight for community outreach activities managed by the Columbia Climate School Events Staff.

  Public-facing Communications

  General communications duties include promoting Climate School activities through social media platforms, email communications, web content, blog entries and multimedia. Consult in design of related publications, emails and websites.

  Assume primary responsibility for directing communications over designated priority areas in line with the Climate School strategic plan. Additionally, the incumbent will work with vendors to produce Climate School print and promotional items as needed.

  Additional Duties

  Performs all other duties, as assigned by the Senior Director of Communications & Events.

  Minimum Qualifications

  Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of five years of related event/project management and communications experience required.

  Excellent written communication skills required.

  Exceptional interpersonal skills and demonstrated use of tact and discretion in dealing with a wide range of internal and external constituents required.

  Ability to identify, manage and implement diverse and multiple tasks related to marketing and events.

  Interest in sustainability and the mission of the Columbia Climate School required.

  Preferred Qualifications

  Experience in an academic setting preferred.
