  DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:The Director of Strategic Capture, provides visionary leadership, leading product market strategy for II-VI Aerospace and Defense's products and capabilities portfolio. Identifies and evaluates product-related technical and market trends to identify key opportunities and threats. Compares this data to internal strengths and weaknesses. Distills this information into a successful, long-term, growth strategy with consistent strategic wins. Works closely with the product line managers to keep the market strategy fully in sync with the product strategy. Advises product line managers and collaborates to develop product roadmaps, key market differentiators, and cost and price targets, all directed at the most leveraged customer communities. Works closely with Account Managers to leverage existing business and relationships to determine customers' future needs and new strategic opportunities.

  Primary Duties & Responsibilities* Working in concert with the Business Unit managers, and key product line managers, develops and executes the market strategy with the critical metrics being a robust opportunity funnel, key strategic wins, and long-term growth.* Evaluate related business and technology trends and communicate to the organization.* Work with Product Line Managers to help develop product road maps, identify key differentiators, and set cost and price points.* Develop and manage the company's strategic response to large government solicitations where various business units may be responding to multiple related solicitations from primes, all related to the same government solicitation.* Develop new accounts in line with the market strategy directly or with account managers.* Analyze and recommend key associations that facilitate the efficient assessment of opportunities and efficient contracting vehicles.* Recommend key M&A targets that support the strategic marketing plan.* Work closely with the other Strategic Market Capture and Business Development Managers and teammates to ensure consistent messaging.* Communicate the high probability of the upcoming need for scarce operational and engineering resources.* Consistently and thoroughly implement all applicable compliance policies, including CUI and ITAR, across all work products and communications. Including a thorough understanding of key compliance constraints in IP/CUI/ITAR-related discussions, developing new accounts, customer communications, evaluating leads, unsolicited inquiries, etc.* Travel as required (likely at least 30%) to visit key customers, new accounts, trade shows, etc.* Accurately and timely monthly, quarterly, and yearly forecasts for bookings and the health and progress of the strategic plan.

  Education & ExperienceEducation: Minimum BS Degree (Materials Science, Optics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or equivalent) with advanced degrees in business or science preferred

  Work Experience: Min 15 years of experience with some combination of lasers, IR imaging, space imaging, or missile seekers, with the bulk of this time in key business or technical positions. At least 5 years experience in Aerospace and Defense with significant exposure/expertise to government methods of solicitation and contracting. Must have a current DOD clearance (at least Collateral Secret) or be willing and capable of securing one

  Skills* Experience in business development and track record of translating technology innovations into profitable businesses* Excellent interpersonal skills as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills* Strong organizational, financial, business, and technical leadership abilities* Strong customer focus and relationship skills* Ability to motivate and guide teams without having a direct reporting structure* Proven skills in strategic planning, product and global market development, market research, and marketing comm nications* Ability to excel in a cross-organizational, cross-cultural, multi-location team environment* Proficiency with financial terms, with a strong understanding of financial analyst reports* Well-connected in the laser and/or opto-electronics industry* Strong project management, attention to detail, organizational skills, and follow through* Self-motivated and able to work productively with minimal supervision* Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving

  Working ConditionsWithin company generally office environment or in a home office. Must be knowledgeable with operations and comfortable working with manufacturing personnel. Estimated 30% travel to customer locations and other activities (tradeshows/conferences) is anticipated. This travel must be efficient and cost effective.

  Physical RequirementsMust carry multiple tasks/projects in parallel and interact successfully with a wide variety of personnel.

  Safety RequirementsAll employees are required to attend scheduled training, follow the site EHS procedures and Coherent Corporate EHS standards. This includes the use of proper protective equipment (PPE) as required by the job responsibilities.

  Managers will ensure that all safety and environmental procedures are followed consistently. They will ensure that risk assessments are performed, proper training, work instructions, required PPE is available, and will monitor compliance.

  All employees are required to follow the site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp. Corporate EHS standards.

  Quality and Environmental ResponsibilitiesDepending on location, this position may be responsible for the execution and maintenance of the ISO 9000, 9001, 14001 and/or other applicable standards that may apply to the relevant roles and responsibilities within the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System.
