Summary
The Michigan Center forContextual Factors in Alzheimer's disease(MCCFAD) builds onexcellent existing programs addressing health inequalities within theUniversity ofMichigan, Michigan State University and Wayne State University. It has aunique, specific andtargeted emphasis on socialand behavioral factors related toAlzheimer's disease andRelatedDementias (ADRD).Thelong-term goals ofthisCenter are:1)to advance Alzheimer's disease and Related Disorders (ADRD)-relevant social andbehavioral science research inunderserved andunderrepresented communities and 2)diversify theresearch workforce dedicated tohealthy aging. Inthetraditionofminorityaging,wewilladdress uniqueandspecific issues inthe contemporary casesofracial/ethnic minorities, with anemphasis on African Americans, Middle East/North African/Arab Americans (MENA) and Latinos. TheCenter activities willpromote the systematic study ofthe contexts inwhich memory loss isexperiencedto better elucidate the sociocultural,economic and behavioral contributors toand consequences of health disparities. We include three priority areas of ADRD: epidemiology,health economics, and culturally sensitive caretoaddress thecomplexity of ADRD and ultimately eliminate disparities. MCCFAD's long-term goal istoeliminate ADRD disparities through research findings, mentorship, community links, and increased numbers ofbehavioral and socialscientists from underrepresented backgrounds.
The Center's four Cores are: Administrative(AC), Research and Education (REC), Analytic (AnC), Community Liaison and Recruitment (CLRC). The Project Coordinator (PC)willcoordinate andfacilitate communication between allCore components, working with allCore Leads, Co-Leads, Area Experts, Community Liaisons andPilotResearchScientists. TheCoordinator shouldhavefamiliarity withandabilityto reach outtominority communities, especially the Arab American communities, andwillassistin day-to-day operations of the Center.
Responsibilities*
Assist Principal Investigators with Core and Community Advisory Board meetings andfollow-up. Schedule, attendandmaintain records ofweeklymeetings.Ensureactionsidentified atmeetingsare addressed and achieved.Apprise Center members of established deadlines.
Familiaritywithandabilitytoreachouttominoritycommunities,especiallythe Middle East/NorthAfrican/Arab Americans (MENA) communities.
Oversee Research Scientist programs(Pilot Project andSummer Data Immersion) including preparation anddistribution ofthesolicitation, receiptandforwarding toreviewers' applications, notification letters, andreceipt and distribution ofpilot project final reports.
Responsible forcreatingandmaintaining asystemfortrackingpilotstudyinvestigators.Collectand enter data, summarize data collected, andmaintain records related to data collection activities.
Assist withthecoordination ofactivities between the various Michigan Centers partnered with MCCFAD. Facilitate contactbetweenCenters,PilotResearch Scientists,CoreLeadsandAreaExperts.
Assist insemi-annual reportwritingandpresentations.Draftreportsforsponsorandmaintainprojectrecords.
SupportBudgetAdministratorasneeded.
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor'sdegreeinrelevantfield(e.g.anthropologygerontology,psychology, publichealth,sociology,etc.).
Demonstrated familiarity withandinterestinworkingwithminority communities, especially theMiddle East/North African/Arab Americans (MENA) communities in the Detroit Metropolitan area
Provenability tohandlemultiple demands simultaneouslyandworkbothindependently andasa member of a team
