They play a lead role in shaping andimplementing TNC's climate action and renewable energy approachesin Wisconsin and the Midwest. They work independently and on teams, with thediscipline and perspective to apply expertise and resources selectively toadvance top priorities. They ensure that work in Wisconsin integrates withTNC's Midwest Division, North American Region and Global scienceinitiatives.The Wisconsin Director of Conservation Science defines sciencepriorities for TNC in Wisconsin and leads and manages a team to support andimprove ongoing projects. They establish the Conservancy as a conservationscience partner in the State, serving as the principal science contact togovernment agencies, other conservation organizations, foundations, theacademic community and the Wisconsin Board of Trustees.The Director ofConservation Science develops key partnerships with public and privateorganizations to identify, resolve and communicate solutions and bestpractices to identified audiences. They develop scientific methods,analyses, tools, and frameworks that address natural system needs andengage local communities for conservation outcomes. They co-create andfacilitate complex and innovative solutions, working with Conservancycolleagues, government agencies, non-profit organizations and communitymembers to benefit natural systems and people. The Wisconsin Director ofConservation Science uses a multi-discipline approach to problem solving andmanages an ecology-focused Science and Innovation Team that interfaces withstaff, contractors and partners in disciplines including physical,atmospheric and climate sciences, renewable energy, soc al sciences,economics, technology and engineering. This role will require your ongoing commitment toembedding diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in your work and thework of the organization.A typical week will include projects like:Co-creating and deploying climate adaptation and resiliency projectsEvaluating, implementing and communicating about an equitable clean energytransition, natural solutions for carbon capture and nature-based solutionsto help nature and communities adapt to climate change Helping shape climatemessages and coaching colleagues on strategic climate engagement Promoting theConservancy's Resilient and Connected Network tool to selectaudiences Helping draft TNC's public comments and positions onconservation priorities Partnering with colleagues and partners onscience/academic grants and publications Serving on advisory teams such asWisconsin Initiative on Climate Change Impacts Determining theConservancy's role in public agency planning effortsWHAT YOU'LL BRINGBA/BS degree and 7 years' experience in conservation practice orrelated field or equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience communicating complex issues to non-scientists, including donorsExperience managing complex or multiple projects, including managingfinances and coordinating the work of other professionals and partners.Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, settingobjectives and managing performance. Experience in partnership developmentwith non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies.Experience negotiating.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Masters or Ph.D. and 7-10years' experience in conservation
