The Public Sector Advisory team serves clients and offers office locations nationwide. This position offers the opportunity to work remotely, however working in the office is an option as well.What you will do:Areas of focus for the Director will include housing and equitable development including policy goals, improving supply of affordable housing, eliminating racial disparities in housing, addressing homelessness, equitable economic development, health, sustainability, and safety of housing and community equity in growth.
Contribute to client capacities and strategic activities related to community/city development with particular focus on the nexus of housing and social equity, with related dynamics including transportation, economic development, public health and environmental sustainability.Lead internal and external project teams, independently and strategically to advance project opportunities, implement timelines and develop recommendations for project content.Contribute best practices in public sector housing policies, complete neighborhoods, broad spectrum of housing opportunities for all people of all economic and social situations, enable and encourage healthy and sustainable lifestyles.Lead in the development and implementation of techniques, programs, action plans, and policies regarding affordable housing and equitable development activities.Develop and maintain strong working relationships wit internal and external industry leaders - including community/public agencies, housing finance/transaction institutions, nonprofit organizations, private lenders, developers, and other units of government.Lead client engagements related to housing and equitable development. This includes advancement of the housing and equitable development practice area and service line development. Assist Public Sector Advisory team leaders in advancing equitable development activities with key intersecting policy areas.Continue to develop knowledge and experience working with a variety of technology environments, platforms, applications, and tools/utilities.Attending professional development, networking events and training seminars on a regular basis. Adhering to the highest degree of professional standards and strict client confidentiality.Manage client engagement staffing, billings/collections, and ensure client profitability targets are met.Qualifications
Knowledge of the principles and procedures of city planning and housing practice is usually attained through a degree in urban planning, public administration, real estate, or a related field.15 years of progressively responsible community planning, equity and housing related experience. Experience as a client serving professional for a consulting firm desired.Thorough knowledge of modern principles, procedures and practices of municipal planning, land use, and zoning, in particular the role of housing in economic and community development.General knowledge of the role and history of real estate, housing, planning and city development in racial inequality, and restorative approaches to pursuing equity.General knowledge of the real estate market, housing finance fundamentals, and financial tools used in housing development and redevelopment.Graduate degree in urban planning, public policy, real estate or a related field.American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), Certified Economic Developer (CecD) and/or real estate development credentials.Formal training in diversity, equity and inclusion pertaining to community planning and/or real estate development.Demonstrated ability to community clearly and persuasively to build strong internal and external working relationships.The ideal candidate will be accessible, approachable, assertive, goal-oriented and at ease with leadership, public speaking as well as a clear and concise writer.The ideal candidate should have a growth mindset with strong interpersonal skills, a demonstrated ability to engage people, create and manage networks, and contribute as an essential member of a dynamic team.Excellent analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.Exceptional verbal, presentation, and written communication, collaboration, and time management skills.Ability to multi-task, work well independently in a fast-paced environment.Motivation to work extended hours and travel as needed to meet the needs of clients and growth of the national practice.Persons of color or other underrepresented communities are especially encouraged to apply.
