Job SummaryThe position of Director of Assessment and Evaluation is pivotal to the Anchorage School District in its support of the Assessment and Evaluation Department. Reporting to the senior director of Assessment and Evaluation, the director is responsible for implementing a robust system for monitoring and reporting with a focus on school board outcomes. The director contributes to the program evaluation of district initiatives in alignment with ASDs strategic action steps and evidence-based practices. This role requires strong technical analysis skills, professional and adaptive interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively collaborate across all departments. The director actively participates in all school board meetings and activities to ensure effective communication. This position has a retirement association with the Teacher Retirement System (TRS).
Job RequirementsThe following are required:
A bachelors degree in education, project management, data science, or a related field. Equivalent experience, education, and training may be considered in lieu of degree requirements.A valid Alaska type B, type C, teacher, or similar certificate.Experience with large-scale project management.A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in communications, administration, leadership, and/or project management.A background in education and instruction.Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.Self-directed, self-motivated, and able to handle multiple tasks in fast-paced environments.Well organized, flexible, and able to work calmly and productively under pressure.The following are preferred:
A minimum of three years of experience working in a large-scale educational institution.Experience coordinating multiple projects simultaneously.Prior managerial and supervisory experience.Experience working with legal counsel.Experience working with public processes.Essential Job Functions

Develops and implements a robust system for monitoring and reporting on Anchorage School Board outcomes.Creates and compiles detailed reports for school board meetings, presenting assessment and evaluation findings in a clear and accessible manner.Collaborates closely with district and school administrators and educators to establish key performance indicators (KPIs) aligned with district goals.Develops and maintains an up-to-date collaborative internal school board reporting calendar for organized and timely reporting.Attends all school board meetings and activities, providing timely updates on assessment findings and insights.Researches and manages school board-directed requests and inquiries.District Initiative Program Evaluation:
Facilitates the comprehensive evaluation of districtwide initiatives and programs, ensuring alignment with educational objectives and strategic action steps.Designs and implements evaluation frameworks to assess the impact and effectiveness of various programs.Generates detailed reports on the success and areas of improvement for each district initiative.Actively participates in strategic initiative planning and provides assessment expertise to enhance program ffectiveness.Develops and communicates interim reports outlining progress on strategic action steps.Data Validation and Accuracy:
Ensures the validity and reliability of all assessment data through rigorous validation processes by maintaining a system for checking data accuracy across data platforms and implementing corrective measures as needed.Data Analysis and Reporting:
Utilizes strong technical analysis skills to interpret assessment results and derive actionable insights.Makes proficient use of the Microsoft Suite of applications, Google Drive, and data visualization tools for advanced data analysis, report generation, and presentation development.Interpersonal Skills and Effective Communication:
Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills in collaborating with various stakeholders, including state officials, school board members, district and school administrators, and educators.Communicates assessment and evaluation strategies, methodologies, and results effectively to different audiences.Fosters a positive, professional, and collaborative environment.Serves as liaison for ASD with federal, state, and local government and non-profit/community groups.The Anchorage School District is an equal employment opportunity employer.
