Position Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Volunteer Engagement and Donor Philanthropy, the Director of Alumni Relations is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing all aspects of our alumni and constituent relations programming and outreach at Morehouse School of Medicine ( MSM ).
In this role, the Director is also responsible for increasing alumni participation and as well as achieving designated fundraising goals through individual gift solicitations and event sponsorships. The Director of Alumni and Constituent Engagement reports directly to the Assistant Vice President for Volunteer Engagement and Donor Philanthropy.
The position is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to increase alumni and constituent engagement throughout MSM , and therefore, is responsible for managing:
Alumni Relations, Faculty Ambassador Program, Student Relations, Alumni Communications and all Events and Programs associated with the Office of Alumni and Constituent Engagement. The Alumni and Constituent Engagement team also assists in building the philanthropic pipeline by strategically engaging specific audiences (i.e., alumni, employees, students, etc.) and identifying unaffiliated prospects through communications, experiences, visits and stewardship designed to support overall development goals.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The individual selected for this position will strategically manage cultivation, engagement and stewardship events, with the support of the Alumni Relations Manager and Development Services. Events includes: Alumni Reunion Weekend; National Alumni Association events; Alumni Receptions; Faculty Ambassador Program; Alumni Holiday Week; MSM Residency Program and all other alumni-related donor cultivation and stewardship events.
Development Responsibilities
Develop and manage a portfolio of Annual Giving prospects. This portfolio includes alumni, non-alumni, students and MSM employees.
Work closely with development colleagues and moves managers to help build the donor pipeline.
Contribute to stewardship and engagement activities to keep donors updated and apprised of how their support impacts the institution specific to their area of giving in collaboration with the Director of Stewardship.
Build on current initiatives, including the Hugh M. Gloster Society, and develop new initiatives around existing programs such as Match Day, to increase our donor base both in number and philanthropic revenues. Alumni & Constituent Management
Oversee the Morehouse School of Medicine National Alumni Association, coordinate national and local Alumni meetings, and related activities including alumni award nominations and coordinating activities for Alumni Reunion Weekend.
Oversee all alumni relations communications & publications, as well as collaborate with the Marketing and Communications Office staff for presence in various publications and communications.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree; Degree from a regionally accredited college or university
5 – 8 Years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications
Master’ Degree or higher is preferred. Degree from a regionally accredited college or university 5 – 8+ years of experience in higher education; preferably in development and alumni relations in higher education or comparable non-profit or private sector institution.
Volunteer management and event planning experience preferred.
Experience working directly with alumni preferred.
Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage to deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Knowledge of events planning and management of small and large groups.
The ideal candidate will be collaborative and have the ability to thrive in an intellectually challenging, fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. They will also be available to travel when necessary and work on evenings and weekends to meet deadlines and objectives critical to the role.

It is MSM’s Immunization policy that all Prospective Employees are required to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID -19 prior to commencement of employment. If employment will commence during Flu Season, MSM requires all individuals to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless granted an exemption. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain an exemption from MSM will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
