The DIAL/SELFAmeriCorps program partners with schools and youth-serving agencies inWestern Massachusetts to create innovative full-time serviceopportunities. Established in 1996, DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps serves ageographic area that spans from Greenfield to Springfield, from rural tourban settings. For 10 months each academic year, DIAL/SELF AmeriCorpsmembers support local youth through mentoring, creative activities,experiential learning and positive youth development to create spaceswhere youth can develop meaningful goals, drive their own solutions,make decisions, fail, learn and grow. AmeriCorps members use acollaborative, student-centered approach to support young people\'sautonomy, belonging and personal learning aspirations. Based on siteplacement, members are trained to either use the conversational skillsof \"motivational interviewing\" to support young people in settinggoals or trained to support youth leadership and social emotionallearning through restorative circles and 1:1 mentoring. Candidatesselect from a variety of sites based on their interests, such as:-Develop creative approaches for goal setting, self expression andresource connection -Support learning in public & alternative schools-Create safe spaces for LGBTQ+ youth -Cultivate a fun educationalatmosphere at drop-in resource centers & after school organizations-Encourage music & arts education -Foster restorative relationships andsocial/emotional skills with youth at schools Basic Requirements:Members must be at least 18 years old, a US citizen, national, or lawfulpermanent resident, and have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalency.Youth work experience is recommended not required, some work history isnecessary. It is highly beneficial to have a driver\'s license withaccess to reliable transportation. Three Core Elements of DIAL/SELFAmeriCorps Members: On-site service at a local school or communitycenter. Team service project in collaboration with youth and community.Weekly training and reflection to build youth work skills and increaseknowledge of different learning styles, social justice issues, creativeapproaches, motivational interviewing, asset-based communitydevelopment, group dynamics and facilitation. DIAL/SELF AmeriCorpsMembers receive: \$19,000 stipend (\$1,727/month) \$7,395 EducationAward for college or student loans. Free health insurance and childcarefinancial assistance. Other potential benefits such as Federal StudentLoan Forbearance, SNAP (food) & Fuel Assistance (winter heating).
