Job Summary:
This position requires creative design skills in engine hardware arrangement and packaging to achieve maintainable, low-cost systems while meeting structural and functional requirements under the Mechanical Systems Externals and Nacelles Department (MSEN). Externals hardware includes a vast and challenging array of parts including Plumbing, Brackets, Mounts, Harnesses, Component Placement, Spacers, Shields, etc. The Externals Designer routinely interfaces with different modules on a PW gas turbine engine as well as integration of different systems on the engine. All design work will utilize Unigraphics Design NX solid modeling as well as other modeling and analysis tools.
Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position may require access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship
Key Responsibilities:
Develop technically sound design solutions within program schedule milestones that meet cost and weight goals.
Understand technical processes and design requirements of multiple gas turbine hardware including plumbing and ducting systems, Bearing, Housing, Tower Shaft, Seals, Oil Nozzle, Gears, Spacers, Shields, supports, tubes, brackets, electrical harnesses, component mounts, etc.
Learn and apply sophisticated solid modeling and analysis tools in a highly proficient manner and communicate with team leadership and management on status and risks to program schedule and metrics (cost, weight, performance, etc.).
Utilize standard work and CORE/AGILE tools to continuously improve the MSEN design process/methods.
Effectively Work with multidiscipline teams including structures, project and product definition.
Ability to negotiate design criteria/space with other groups including internal as well as external customers.
Ability to complete complex tolerance stacks for fit/function and coaches, reviews, and delegates work to lower-level professionals.
English (read, write, speak) is required when communicating with customers, co-workers, or supervisors who only speak English
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 8 years of engineering experience, or an Advanced Degree in Engineering with 5 years of engineering experience.
Travel less than 15%.
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
3 years of experience with CAD solid modeling (UG NX) or finite element analysis tools (i.e., Ansys).
3 years of experience with Teamcenter or other PLM system.
3 years of gas turbine experience and working in a virtual 3D environment.
3 years of experience with GD&T, leading teams as well as creating and managing schedules.
Existing US Government Security clearance
