Deputies are fully sworn Deputy Sheriffs withfull-arrest powers, protective status with paid WRS contributions. NewDeputies begin their careers assigned to the Jail Division. Also,preference will be given to individuals with prior experience incorrectional environments. You will be successful in this role bycompleting the following key tasks and responsibilities: Maintain jailsecurity including: regular patrolling of jail, monitoring surveillanceequipment, completing cell inspections and searches, and conductingstrip searches in accordance with State Statutes, policies, andprocedures. Identify potential and/or existing problems and takesappropriate action to correct the situation. For example: recognizepotential inmate conflict, intervene in disputes, mediate inmateconflict, and discipline with jail rules are violated. Book inmatesincluding: conduct searches, photograph, fingerprint, inventory personalproperty, complete medical questionnaire, carefully assess rather thesubject is a risk to themselves or others. Interpret and understandcourt paperwork including judgements of conviction, warrants, childsupport orders, writs, etc., understand and serve civil process papers,and escort inmates to court.
