JOB SUMMARY
The Deputy Chief of Staff (DCS) has varied responsibilities in leading and/or supporting the Presidents strategic, management, operational, and administrative priorities. The DCS acts as a senior advisor to the President, Chief of Staff, and the Presidents cabinet regarding the development and implementation of University priorities, with a purview spanning UConn and UConn Health. This individual will also assist the President to advance the Universitys agenda, resolve institutional issues and challenges, and serve as a conduit for the Executive Secretary to the University Board of Trustees and various municipal, business, government, and professional constituencies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborates with and assists the President and senior leadership team in implementing and executing strategic initiatives to advance the Universitys mission and vision.Organizes and prioritizes critical issues and required information for the President and senior leadership.Exercises independent judgment to determine the efficacy of institutional strategies, programs, and procedures using data analytics and predictive analytics for operational efficiencies.Aids in the identification and facilitation of internal and external resources as well as the expertise needed to achieve strategic and operational goals.Works collaboratively with University units and leadership to set manageable expectations, guide operational best practices, and provide oversight of key University initiatives and programs.Provides leadership and coordination for internal organizational change and the associated change management, policy reform, trainings, and regulatory programs and compliance.Engages with high-profile external stakeholders including alumni, donors, government officials, and industry partners requiring political finesse on behalf of the President.Represents the President at key system, campus, and external meetings; works with University constituencies, including faculty and staff governance groups on issues pertaining to strategic activities.Serves as a member of the Presidents senior cabinet.Serves as liaison with athletics and NCAA compliance.Works with the President and Chief of Staff to set agendas for executive-level meetings.Oversees other units and duties as assigned by the President.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Masters or advanced degree in business, policy, education, higher education administration, compliance, or related field is preferred.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Possess a minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible experience that includes strategic assessment, planning, operations, and resource management.Ability to conduct rigorous analyses to guide strategic direction, build consensus, and collaborate.Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and direct high-level operations at a public college or university.Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills including oral and written communications and public presentations.Preference will be given to candidates with relevant experience at research universities.Preference will be given to candidates with relevant and considerable experience with NCAA and student athletic requirements or related compliance areas.APPOINTMENT TERMS
