Dental Assistant
Community HealthNet is seeking a Dental Assistant for the Gary, Indiana location.
Under the direct supervision of the General Dentist or Hygienist, cleans calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth and beneath margins of gums, using dental instruments. Feels lymph nodes under patient's chin to detect swelling or tenderness that could indicate presence of oral cancer. Feels and visually examines gums for sores and signs of disease. Provide clinical services and health education to improve and maintain oral health of school children, adults, and geriatric patients.

Chair-side Assisting Duties
Assists the dentists during oral exams by charting treatment plan as dictated by dentistsAssist dentist during procedures by passing appropriate instruments and materialsPrepares and mixes dental materials necessary and/or instructed by dentistsMaintains a clear operative field by retracting lip, cheek, tongue and by using suction, air and water syringeAssists the dentists by taking impressions for lab procedures, cement and remove temporary bridges and crowns, apply dental sealants, removing excess cement, etc.Assists as directed and in accordance with training during oral surgeryProvides post-operative instructions to patientsFlushes suction lines after proceduresGeneral Duties
Prepare Clinical AreasTurn on compressor and x-ray unitsTurn on sterilizers and x-ray developer and check water levelsFill water bottles for chairs with distilled waterFlush water lines for no less than 20 secondsTurn on amalgamators and curing lightsFill ultrasonic cleaner with appropriate solutionDate stamp and initial sterilizing indicator stripsReviews chart with Dentist to establish treatment planReviews medical chart for medical history and medications to ensure proper anesthetics and treatmentPrepares operatory for treatment plannedArranges appropriate dental instruments necessary for treatmentSeat patientsImplements infection control procedures in compliance with CDC and/or state specific infection control practices
Disinfect chair and operatory equipment between patientsRemoving used instruments and cassettes from operatory to soiled areaEnsures that instruments are run through the ultrasonic cleaner, wrapped or bagged as appropriate with sterilizing indicator stripsDisinfects impressions and other materials used during proceduresTrainer/lead responsibilitiesAct as trainer to new staff by assisting in their orientationPours and trims models made from impressions and fabricates custom traysAs directed or in accordance with state law, exposes, develops, mounts and duplicates radiographsPerforms routine maintenance equipmentChanging suctions traps on chairs as needed but no less than weeklyChanging trap on suction pump as needed but no less than monthlyFlush cleaning solution and scrub sterilizers as needed but not less than monthlyIdentifying operating issues with equipment and taking appropriate action to ensure that they are resolvedHand pieces are cleaned and lubricated between each usePrepares clinical area for clinic closingTurn off amalgamators and curing lightsFlush suction lines with enzymatic solutionFlush water linesRun water lines again without water to ensure that the lines are dryDrain solution from ultrasonic and rinse unitTurn off sterilizersDrain water from dental chair areaTurn off compressor and x-rayEnsures that inventory is maintained by notifying appropriate personnel of needSkills and Qualifications
High School Diploma or GEDGraduated from an accredited program for Dental Assistants.D ntal Assisting Certification Have a CDA or RDADANB certification in RadiologyRadiographic license in INEFDA preferredCPR CertificationTwo years of experience as a Dental AssistanceBilingual preferredDuties:
