Purpose
Provide technical support to the surface operations (including Hollinger and Pamour Open Pits) covering short-term scheduling and supervisory duties of the survey and breakthrough planning teams.
Work schedule is 4 days on, 3 days off; on either a Mon – Thurs or Tues – Fri rotation.
Safety & Sustainability Expectations
Become familiar with all aspects of the Fatality Risk Management.
Be proactive with respect to safety. Report and correct hazards as they are identified.
Accountable for own health and safety performance as well as wellbeing of those in the workplace.
Conform to the critical control verification process on site.
Follow operating procedures, design checklists, Occupational Health and Safety Act; company policies and comply with all regulatory requirements.
Actively participate in team safe meetings/discussions providing input based on observations and experience so that designs include mitigation measures/controls for all foreseeable hazards.
Essential Duties
Prepare and present the 2 week plan each week using Deswik, collaborating with Mine Operations leadership to ensure that the plan is achievable and aligns with mine key performance indicators. Field visits are expected to ensure the actual conditions are well-understood and effective communication with Mine Operations is achieved.
Communicate the plan effectively to all stakeholders highlighting the critical tasks to keep the operation on track to meet the monthly plan objectives.
Track compliance to plan for the following purposes:
Understand any variance and its impact on the one month and 3 month plans.
Identify opportunities to improve performance
Identify threats/risks to be mitigated for successful performance.
Provide assistance to the breakthrough planning team by performing the following tasks when requested:
Perform reviews of drill pattern designs, loading packages, probe hole designs, restricted, cautionary and avoidance zone files to support the quality assurance process for technical design within the technical team.
Participate in data analysis and blasting reviews to understand opportunities and challenges to be incorporated into the plan.
Provide supervisory oversight of the survey and breakthrough planning teams, including:
Perform critical control verifications on staff as they carry out tasks to ensure processes align with the Fatality Risk Management system.
Set and track objectives and development plans for all direct reports aligning with the site objectives.
Provide regular mentorship for direct reports.
Other supporting tasks as outlined by the Technical Services Superintendent.
Training & Experience
Completion of a post-secondary education program in mine technology/engineering, or equivalent.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in the mining industry.
Experience in mine design and scheduling is essential with preference to individuals who have used Deswik, and who have experience mining through voids and in pioneer blasting.
Ability to organize workloads and modify priorities in a dynamic fast-paced continuous production environment.
Good interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to work with others.
Working Conditions
This is a site based position supporting our Porcupine Gold Mines operation near Timmins, ON
The schedule is 4 days on 3 days off.
