About Data Engineer- Data Modeler, Datawarehouse, SQL, Python: 7+ yrs

  Who We Are

Today’s challenging business environment is more than that - it is a period of disruption between the pandemic, global business change and internal process complexity. For us to focus on simplicity and the best customer experience, we need great talent and the right skillsets to be successful. This is now a mantra for our Cisco leadership team and for us.

The Enterprise Data Platform team is part of Cisco’s Chief Data and Analytics Office (CDAO) organization. The team powers the enterprise level data stack across data warehouse, data lake, tools, and governance / quality platforms. This team also shapes, develops, and implements the long-term platform architecture strategy and roadmap, to support the ever-growing Data and Analytics needs of Cisco’s business functions.

  What You'll Do

  · We have a phenomenal opportunity for a Data Engineer/Data Modeler to join the Enterprise Data Platform team. Your responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  · Facilitates the creation of Data Models using normalized (3NF), IDEF1X, and Dimensional structures (star and snowflake schemas according to Kimball architecture) in OLAP systems to support Enterprise Data Analytics and decision-making

  · Forward engineer DDL scripts for the creation of all 3NF objects and views for Teradata and Snowflake EDW systems.

  · Coordinate work with Master Build and all Deployment Teams.

  · Create scripts, oversee releases, work with project teams to manage backlog.

  · Enforce architectural standards and modeling best practices.

  · Implement logical model structures as physical objects on Teradata, Snowflake, and Google BigQuery platforms

  · Conduct modeling sessions directly with application teams from all areas of the Enterprise to clarify and capture reporting requirements and translate them into physical structures.

  · Define and document semantics, business definitions, and relationships for Enterprise data, utilizing established glossary and enterprise terms for system-wide consistency and readability of models and database objects. C

  · Cross train on Master Build responsibilities, and to assist with model health/clean-up activities.

  Who You'll Work With

You will be part of the Architecture, Standards, and Governance team within Cisco’s Chief Data and Analytics Organization (CDAO) organization. In CDAO, you will collaborate with colleagues from Data engineering, Data Governance, Data Platform, and Data Products. In addition, you will liaison and work with stakeholders outside such as Business architecture and Solutions team, Enterprise Infrastructure, and Security, amongst others. Finally, you will work the Cisco business data community as our end customer.

  Who You Are

We are seeking a hardworking, experienced, and a self-motivated data engineer and data modeler who has a keen commitment to automation. You feel comfortable dealing with ambiguity, striving for creative solutions, and can communicate abstract business and technical requirements clearly and persuasively. You take a system-wde view that puts Cisco’s interests to the forefront as you make compelling cases for the enforcement of architectural policies that your customers may not think are that fastest or easiest way to deliver requirements. To do this, you grasp and communicate the "why" behind best practices.

  Minimum qualifications include:

5-10+ years of experience creating physical or dimensional data models

Direct knowledge of data architecture best practices, particularly pertaining to deployment

  Change management experience

Development experience in SQL or similar languages

  Why Cisco

#WeAreCisco, where each person is unique, but we bring our talents to work as a team and make a difference powering an inclusive future for all.

We embrace digital, and help our customers implement change in their digital businesses. Some may think we’re "old" (36 years strong) and only about hardware, but we’re also a software company. And a security company. We even invented an intuitive network that adapts, predicts, learns and protects. No other company can do what we do - you can’t put us in a box!

But "Digital Transformation" is an empty buzz phrase without a culture that allows for innovation, creativity, and yes, even failure (if you learn from it.)

Day to day, we focus on the give and take. We give our best, give our egos a break, and give of ourselves (because giving back is built into our DNA.) We take accountability, bold steps, and take difference to heart. Because without diversity of thought and a dedication to equality for all, there is no moving forward.

So, you have colorful hair? Don’t care. Tattoos? Show off your ink. Like polka dots? That’s cool. Pop culture geek? Many of us are. Passion for technology and world changing? Be you, with us!

  Why Cisco?

#WeAreCisco. We are all unique, but collectively we bring our talents to work as a team, to develop innovative technology and power a more inclusive, digital future for everyone. How do we do it? Well, for starters - with people like you!

Nearly every internet connection around the world touches Cisco. We’re the Internet’s optimists. Our technology makes sure the data traveling at light speed across connections does so securely, yet it’s not what we make but what we make happen which marks us out. We’re helping those who work in the health service to connect with patients and each other; schools, colleges, and universities to teach in even the most challenging of times. We’re helping businesses of all shapes and sizes to connect with their employees and customers in new ways, providing people with access to the digital skills they need and connecting the most remote parts of the world - whether through 5G, or otherwise.

We tackle whatever challenges come our way. We have each other’s backs, we recognize our accomplishments, and we grow together. We celebrate and support one another - from big and small things in life to big career moments. And giving back is in our DNA (we get 10 days off each year to do just that).

We know that powering an inclusive future starts with us. Because without diversity and a dedication to equality, there is no moving forward. Our 30 Inclusive Communities, that bring people together around commonalities or passions, are leading the way. Together we’re committed to learning, listening, caring for our communities, whilst supporting the most vulnerable with a collective effort to make this world a better place either with technology, or through our actions.

So, you have colorful hair? Don’t care. Tattoos? Show off your ink. Like polka dots? That’s cool. Pop culture geek? Many of us are. Passion for technology and world changing? Be you, with us! #WeAreCisco
