  Job Summary:Under general supervision of the Facilities Manager, the Custodian provides custodial support services for all HoMA facilities, activities, and events. The Custodian helps to provide a clean, safe, and healthy environment for all HoMA guests and staff.

  The Honolulu Museum of Art:Opened in 1927, the Honolulu Museum of Art is a home for art and education created for the benefit of the entire community. Founder Anna Rice Cooke envisioned a museum that would bring people together through the power of art and the deep intuitions that are common to all. The museum was conceived of as a place of meaningful exchange and dialogue, celebrating the diverse artistic and cultural traditions of Hawaiis multi-ethnic population. From this founding intention grew the museum of today, with a world-class encyclopedic collection of more than 55,000 works of art, representing a stunning breadth of places and eras, from all corners of the globe and from the ancient past to the present day.

  Minimum Qualifications:

  High school diploma or equivalent and 6 months of relevant experience.Flexible work schedule; occasional weekends and evenings.Effective communication skills.Ability to work independently and in a team setting.Honesty, integrity, enthusiasm, perspective, and a strong work ethic supported by commitment and follow-through.Ability to work within and support a diverse community of visitors, artists, and employeesDesired Qualifications:

  Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, chemicals, and equipment used in a museum and/or housekeeping work environment.Experienced with use of hand tools, simple carpentry, painting, and plumbing repairs.Valid drivers license.Essential Duties:

  Provides general custodial service while utilizing best practices for safety, efficiency, and environmental concerns.Ensures Museum facilities, including public areas, restrooms, and staff spaces, are kept clean, stocked, and in good condition. Cleaning tasks include but are not limited to: vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, washing windows, and sanitizing restrooms.Collects and sorts waste for garbage and recycling.Supports the set up and break down of Museum events/functions.Assists with office/room set ups and moves furniture, fixtures, or equipment as needed.Delivers and picks up supplies, incoming shipments, and other materials to/from various departments.Assesses and reports facility maintenance issues to appropriate staff; performs assigned repairs.Ensures proper care and safety in the operation and maintenance of equipment; communicates repair needs to supervisor.Stocks and maintains supply closets; communicates inventory levels needs to supervisor.Other duties as assigned.CompensationThe Honolulu Museum of Art is committed to practicing salary transparency. The salary range for this position is $16.50 to $17.00 per hour. Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting pay, including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity. Work will often be performed with short deadline and situations sensitive to the Museum. Regular office hours are required. Due to the nature of the responsibilities, evening and weekend work is sometimes required, and at times may be on an emergency basis.Ability to climb stairs, walk on uneven and occasionally slippery surfaces. Ability to pull, push, lift and carry up to 50 pounds with occasionally heavier loads. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch. Work areas can be dusty, humid, or have various kinds of chemicals, fumes, and odors. Noise level is usually normal but may be loud when using power equipment.The employee must be able to fulfil all Essential Duties with or without a reasonable accommodation.
