JOB REQUIREMENTS: Custodians at the Veterans Home are responsible forperforming a variety of cleaning and sanitizing tasks in occupied andunoccupied patient rooms, common areas and offices, to maintain ahomelike environment for the residents of our facility. Duties includebut are not limited to cleaning toilets, showers, and furniture; floorcare; operating automatic cleaning equipment such as scrubbers,sweepers, and carpet cleaning machines; and shoveling snow. Job dutiesrequire climbing, reaching and bending; performing sustained physicalactivity; performing heavy work, including occasionally exerting morethan 100 pounds of force; operating loud, shaking and/or vibratingequipment; and working on ladders and/or scaffolding. Service, clean, orsupply restrooms. Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing,or vacuuming. Gather and empty trash. Follow procedures for the use ofchemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors andfixtures. Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to preparecleaning solutions, according to specifications. Clean windows, glasspartitions, or mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, orsqueegees. Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs oradditions to building operating systems. Dust furniture, walls,machines, or equipment. Clean and polish furniture and fixtures. Moveheavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually or with handtrucks. Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, or parking areas, usingsnowplows, snow blowers, or snow shovels, or spread snow-meltingchemicals. Set up, arrange, or remove decorations, tables, chairs,ladders, or scaffolding to prepare facilities for events, such asbanquets or meetings. Keep storage areas and carts well-stocked, clean,and tidy. Carry linens, towels, toilet items, and cleaning supplies,using wheeled carts. Clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms,corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas sothat health standards are met. Empty wastebaskets, empty and cleanashtrays, and transport other trash and waste to disposal areas. Sweep,scrub, wax, or polish floors, using brooms, mops, or powered scrubbingand waxing machines. Replenish supplies, such as drinking glasses,linens, writing supplies, and bathroom items. Disinfect equipment andsupplies, using germicides or steam-operated sterilizers. *****OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: In their resume, minimallyqualified applicants will provide details about their experienceperforming paid or unpaid work.
